  1. Do I need a No. 2 Pencil and Scantron? I had to click on the "More Options" reply button to get here. The standard Reply window at the bottom wouldn't allow me to use my spacebar for some reason.
  2. Those actually work quite well. We used to wear them when we were duck hunting a lot. Nothing beats sinking to your knees in muck 30 yards from the boat! I don't remember them being $144 though.
  3. Nice! I have a couple of those in a box somewhere waiting to be checked off the "some day" list.
  4. I wish she'd go away. Everybody, on both sides of the aisle, agrees that these recounts aren't likely to influence the outcome of the election and evendors if it did and the results got tossed to the House of Representatives, Trump will still win. I'm so tired of butthurt liberals finding ways to use the law to further their causes. Just go away Jill, you lost. Badly. Nobody wants you; just go. I'm ready for this dumpster fire election to be over with already.
  5. Sure you can drill and tap with the barrel on. You'll just need to not drill down into the barrel and then all you're doing is tapping a blind hole. But as Clemson suggested, its much easier to pull the barrel and not worry about drilling into it on accident.
  6. Well, It looks like you poster this six times. I'm afraid the tablet might've hiccuped and mutliposted this.
  7. It's been entertaining watching Trump's detractors swallow their pride and come forward to kiss the ring.
  8. While the BLM might've gotten started with good intentions, the whole thing to me is more them venting at white people for everything real or imagined that's happened to black people since the dawn of time - plus their tried-and-true shakedown method of shaming whitey into acquiescing into paying them off. I've been to BLM's website see their list of demands and its pretty wild (I'll paraphrase): End the war on black people! Investment in black communities Financial reparations Self-governing communities Economic Justice Political power In other words, and to quote Eddie Murphy: "I know what this is! This a shakedown!" I can't say that I agree with their message or the means of delivery. I wish everyone peace and prosperity and I demand everyone have an equal shot at the title. That said however, you'll never insult me into agreeing with your point - which seems to be condescending and violent method with which BLM seems to want to communicate their method.
  9. Literally anybody but Clinton. Which I guess means Trump.
  10. Do you consider zero hedge a reliable news source?
  11. Karl, I drank enough PBR in college to float a battleship on. Back then the bar I hung around in sold two $1.00 longnecks: Pabst Blue Ribbon and Lonestar. And I hate Lonestar so I drank my fill of Pabst. I still drink it from time to time. I'll even drink Schlitz if I can find it. They're still making it and I'm told they've gone back to the original recipe. As a homebrewer and a craft beer drinker, my favorite these days is probably decent English ale. Nothing fancy or too hoppy. If I don't have anything on hand, I do drink a lot of Sam Adams and Coors Light. I will admit though, being something of an occasional opportunist , I have learned that often times the best beer can also simply be a cold beer. And if not a cold beer, a free beer.
  12. I've spent the last three years reading books about the fall of Rhodesia and later, South Africa to the good liberal supported revolutionaries. Each time I hear of the "progressive left" or "progressives" I am reminded that the "freedom fighters" in Sub-Saharan Africa fought with the full support of the liberal world and were considered progressive for their day. Looking at everything that's happening in Western civilization, I can't help but ponder if we aren't headed in a similar direction. And that makes me angry..
  13. I have one. Don't lose any of the parts for it (like the extractor); parts are scarce as hen's teeth.
  14. Its been a long time since Herb passed away. It was back about ten years ago, not too long after I graduated from SFA. Herb mailed me a Turk Mauser "as a graduation present from Fritz!". I was supposed to get down to visit him but I did not get the opportunity to do so. I pulled that Mauser out of the safe the other day and was thinking about him and all the pithy comments he used to make. Fritz and a few of the other guys kept me rolling with some of the rants they'd go on. It sure doesn't seem like a decade ago. Where does the time go?...
  15. Is everything square or is the kitty still short?
  16. Your father was a shrubber and your mother smelled of elderberries.

    Flaco

I still lurk from time to time. There hasn't been a lot of sporter talk since the market dried up. That notwithstanding, I've also bought a house, gotten engaged, and whole lot of other "grownup stuff" that absorbs all my mad money. I don't shoot like I did when 30-06 was $0.40 a pop and 8MM Turk bandoliers were $5/each. Just can't afford it. I still have several Mauser and Pattern 17 Enfield actions that need my attention and some day Lord willing they'll get it. I still remember Fritz, Jerry the Horsefly, z1r, and several others. I learned a lot "back then!" I do not miss Flaco however. He and I never got on well and I do not wish to ever have any contact with him ever again. He was a bit too liberal and mouthy for my tastes.
  18. Why not just shoot an 8x57JS? They're not a bad round; especially if you reload. My first rifle was a scoped M48 Yugo and I killed several deer with it.
  19. If you have excess capital at the moment and you're seriously interested in doing some Mausersmithing, I might offer the notion that "its better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it". Receivers are the ATF registered part and one of the most complex pieces of the Mauser rifle. If you had a bucket of them, you could always anneal them, have them surface ground to clean them up, and get them recarburized to return their original hardness. Then you oil them lightly and put them in the back of the safe for another day. They aren't making these any more and quality receivers are getting scarce. You might actually have some gems in the pile once you pick through them all. Bolts would be the other critical, expensive to source part so be on the lookout for those. Go back there and see what he has. If they're all M98 receivers and aren't rusted up/hole-drilled to oblivion, maybe you could make a deal on them. If you do, see if he also has a big box of spare parts laying around too. You never know what you'll get.
  20. Yes Tony, I remember when Herb and Tye passed away. Both were good men. I had recently been communicating with Herb about obtaining a couple of the Turks he had squirreled away in his barn when he passed away suddenly. Craig! I'll try to make it by my next time up. Last time me and my lady had a few days so we went and did the touristy stuff downtown. Next time sir! I'm finally building up vacation time so I can finally go places for a few days at a stretch. IF they'll let me out of the office... Sorry I missed the Soros/Gates shoot out gang! It would've been a hoot to see a fat old Greek liberal try to out shoot a pipsqueak nerdy lib. That's what I get for staying away too long...story of my life..."best thing to ever hit happened yesterday..." Jason
  21. Howdy all! Its been a long time since I've been active here. I sort of discovered semi-autos after the mil-surp bolt actions started to run out and haven't done much gunsmithing over the last 5-6 years. I'm tickled to see that MFRC is still around after all these years! I remember the old board back a couple versions ago, back in 2003 when Mausers were cheap and ammo was plentiful. Tony built that 7x57 on a Yugo Mauser, Jerry the Horsefly would get mule-lipped about some things, and Fritz was busy playing golf and buying up the world's supply of Turk Mausers. I'm not online nearly as much as I used to be but I still check in from time to time. Glad to see guys are still building and people are still learning. You guys have a good evening. I'm off to check on the home brew I bottled last night. Cheers! Jason
  22. The Privi Partisan .223 I bought at Wal-Mart won't cycle my new AR. On another note, I sure am happy I build a 30-06 back when I graduated from college. 30-06 has been available just about the entire this ammo craze has been on. Good to know I can still buy something in spite of the ammo hoarders.
  23. Tony, You need a real big box trap to trap a canine. If you have a dog/coyote problem and you live out in the woods, you ought to figure out how to set some snares. They're somewhat safer than leg-hold traps because you and your chickens won't step on them and they work. My friends that live down by the river frequently trap problem coyotes with them. I'm not saying they're most humane solution but if you're trying to protect your livestock, you might think it over.
