FC
NY is dropping the teacher literacy test due to complaints of racism. My daughter, who is going to be a teacher, responded that the questions were reported as often vague, with more than one answer. She said that African-American dialect is accepted as a language, and whites, being taught standard English, have an advantage. I wrote that my nursing board questions had more than one correct answer- you have to choose the best answer. Don't get enough of those questions right and you won't pass the board. Also, when I wrote white papers, or policies in the Army, only standard English was acceptable. The goal is the kids be taught standard English so they can get a job. AzRednek
Times have changed. Gal I dated briefly in the early 70's was turned down for a grade school teacher's job here in Phoenix because of her hard core Southern/Georgian accent. She grew up in a strict Pentecostal home, never watched TV until she was in college. I was told she did manage to get hired the following year. After I got kicked out my senior year of high school. I had to go to the bad boy's night school to get the English and Civics credit I needed to graduate. At the time and possibly still. All Arizona high school students had to complete one semester of civics and pass an exam. The exam was written by the state legislature. I had a black couple teaching English that rotated days. The woman had a slight British accent. She was very hard on the black kids. Often raising her voice and chewing them out loud for speaking with an accent, using slang and not speaking in complete sentences. She was kinder to the Mexicans but did a good job of breaking their accent. I saw her get red faced and very angry after a black student addressed her "yo mama". Sent him home, gave him a disciplinary report he had to return with signed by the principal. I wish there were still educators around like my English teacher around teaching my grand kids. I can only recall her getting on me once for saying ain't.
Racepres
^^ Good teacher right there. no Teachers any more. Teaching implies that learning is in fact taking place....ain't so anymore..they are simply Facilitators...providing some guidance toward learning, but simply hoping something sinks in...Not their fault...The New PC climate has dumbed down an entire Population... Heard of Trickle up Poverty???? This is Trickle up Ignorance... [bTW Ignorance is Cureable] The schools are simply there to make $$$ Especially institutes of "higher learning" ...They need the $$. If students don't keep at least signing up for school [shocking how many sign up, especially with someone elses money, then drop classes..] the more $$ for the school!!! it is all about Money and Control. Whoever controls the money....has control.....
karlunity
I find that idea both disadvantageous to the student and professionally insulting. karl

AzRednek
I have to agree some what on the money motive with public schools. The teacher's unions are out of control in my opinion. Doing a half-assed job teaching but keeping their lucrative pensions intact while school buildings lack maintenance. If I had the bucks, my grand kids would be in a private school away from the liberal BS they are being taught. A few years ago my grand daughter brought photos to school of a family dove hunt. Teacher called her a murderer. She's now hearing about Trump being a racist and before the election. Told how great Hillary would be for the country and Trump wanting war with Mexico by building the wall. Kids were being told to engage their parents in conversation about Hillary and the evils of Trump. My daughter in law insisted I stay out of it. I was ready to raise hell and if necessary hire a lawyer about my grand daughter's super-lib teacher.

AzRednek
I'd like to see the school board do something about the nut job in Maryland. Seems he is more concerned about the so called hate email he's getting than the rape incident.
