tinkerfive
I know you haven't heard from me for a while, too much else going on now to do much gun work but keeping my eye out and stocking up for retirement. To that end I'm seeing a 270 Winchester Enfield barrel up for sale on Ebay. It is in the standard profile. 270 Winchester is a waste of an Enfield action in my opinion but if I could ream it out to 270 Weatherby the barrel might be worth considering. I recall of prior discussions about 30.06 to 300 Weatherby it was said that due to the outer taper of the barrel that the neck / shoulder area would get dangerously thin. I understand that from the rimless '06' case to the belted magnum case it is the same thing. The question is does .277 Vs .308 make a difference? Dr.Hess
It's 15 thousandths' more material at the neck area. Is that enough to not be dangerously thin? I would think that the shoulder area was the same between the 2, but you'd have to look that up. I really have no idea on it, though. Do you have a full profile spec on the barrel? If you could marry that up with the chamber you want, you would get a pretty good idea.

AzRednek
would have to take mesurements to see remember a 270 wea is not the long mag same length as a 270 win should still be fine just have to check Without looking it up. I believe the 270 Weatherby is simply their 300 necked down. Several months ago a gunshow vendor was selling an incomplete Enfield project converted to 7MM STW with a Douglas brand barrel. I believe the STW is same length as the Weatherby cartridges except maybe the 378-460 series. I didn't tinker with it but watched as he was showing it to a potential buyer and cycled a cartridge out of the mag box.
