AzRednek
Does anybody know anything about the Enfield #2A Ishapore they are selling at J&G?? I assume they are converted from the rimmed 303. Were the rifles re-barreled with a 308 bore or simply rechambered and modified to handle the rimless 7.62?? I assume the Ishapore is an Indian arsenal, anybody know for certain?? Is the action strong enough to safely handle modern 308 ammo or even milsurp 7.62?? 179 bucks for a 30 caliber shooter is a good price but I don't want to go through the hassle of special loading and segregating my reloads like I have to do with 8MM for my 1888 Turk conversion. I haven't shot the Turk for years out of fear of mixing up the ammo. http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/mi...roducts_id/1453
Stan in S C
The Enfield 2A and it's successor, the 2A1 are not Enfields reworked for the 7.62X51Nato cartridge. They are rifles which were expressly made for this cartridge. There's been some controversy as to whether or not the Indian arsenal used a different stronger steel on these but that's never been proven nor disproven. Most of them are good shooters. If you look on different forums you'll find a lot of recent posts concerning these since thae latest batch hit the market.Overall everyone is satisfied with them. For the money they are a good deal.I like mine and find it to be accurate as well as good looking. AzRednek
Thx Sonic, I'm in the same state as J&G so I can beat the shipping and FFL fees. Can't beat the sales tax though. My shooting buddy has several thousand rounds of West German surplus 7.62. I need to help him shoot it up before he decides to sell it. 38scarabkv
you should only fire 7.62mm military ammo in 2a's and fr8 mausers, as commercial .308 is loaded to higher pressure, I did hear of a 2a exploding at a local gun range but it had a barrel full of cosmoline, as did mine, so always check before you pull the trigger. I will say that my 2a would not eject spent cases, and the ejection screw was making contact with the bolt so I releaved some metal on the extractor so that it would push the spent case over further towards the ejector, and now it shoots fine. robdog
I got one from AIM when they first came in. Mine is a nice refinished rifle with some stock repair. I bought the rifle for my collection but its a nice shooter. Much more accurate then my rack grade 98's
