cold shot
what brand of bases are ya goin' to use? I personally use weaver 2pc bases. Dave
tinkerfive
So many of us use a jig we , myself included, couldn't tell you without pulling the base off to measure. How about this.... Set your base on the receiver and mark the receiver through the holes with a sharpy or center punch, anything that will fit through the hole and leave a mark. tinkerfive
i was wondering if someone could tell me the distance from the rear of the rear reciever bridge for the first hole. does that make sense? thanks guys bert Bert In all honesty, no it doesn't make sense, not to me at least. The "rear of the rear reciever bridge" is something like a 30* angle and potentially subject to wear. Why would you go from that? I went down and measured two that I had done with the jig. Now going from the front of the bridge ( back edge of the charger guide ) ( a 90* angle straight across ) I got 3/16 to the center of the forward hole. So if my math is correct the rear hole is 11/16 back from the front edge. If those measurements are incorrect, someone please tell me, maybe I'm not using my jig correctly. bert01
If 11/16 is right that will work for what i wanted, i just need to know where to put the rear hole so i can mount a scope later.
Racepres
If it were me , I would get a B square mauser mount from ... [for instance] Midway, or Brownells... they cost abt $5.00 and the screw hole spacing works for [almost] all of the mounts that I have encountered... therefor .. it is effectively a "jig".. For not only the one piece bases available. But, also the weaver, and leupold 2 piece... tho the two are Not the same [depending on the leupy you choose] the Front hole on the rear bridge are in the same place!!! I know that this seems discombobulated!!! But I truly hope you get the "drift"... MV
z1r
If the the hole spacing is .500" then you can drill them anywhere as long as you plan on using two piece mounts for the scope. If you want a one piece then do yourself a favor and buy whichever mount you plan on using and let it be your guide.

donmarkey
Sorry it took so long. The overall length of the base is 1.390. The first hole is .1675 from the rear of the base to the center of the hole. The holes are .500 apart center to center. IMO to make the base fit right without overhanging the inside of the action too much you have to have the base flush with the back of the receiver where the bolt handle rides. Actually if I use them again I will move it back even farther and trim the base for bolt handle clearance. Let me know if you need/want a pic. -Don
