Downwindtracker2
I bought a M-96 (M-38) Swede sporter for my grandson. I finally got a chance to load some and take it to the range. I was able to sight it in,so the bases do line up ,And I was very impressed with a basic group of 3/4" wide x 6" vertical. The 6" was from a terrible, terrible trigger. I could have swore the side safety was still on!! Dayton Traister makes a trigger and cock-on-open kit for this rifle. Does the kit involve any machining ? Is it very easy to install? Horsefly
DWT,The Dayton and Bold triggers are about the easiest part to change on a Mauser without any machine work.Something to check if it is an aftermarket trigger is the clearance at the bottom of the trigger and the stock. If you loosen off the action screws or take the action out of the stock and the trigger is easier or lighter, then that's your problem, and a very common one at that. All you have to do is put some lipstick or something sticky on the bottom of the trigger, tighten the action back into the stock, take it back out and see where it makes contact with the stock, and remove that spot with a dremel or a small, sharp chisel.I bet that's your problem "cause I've been through it twice with aftermarket triggers and replacement stocks.Maybe that'll be it and you can save 40 or 50 bucks.Good luck,Jerry. Oh ya,just my opinion,I have way too many rifles to be logical, and some are small-rings that cock on close and the rest on opening, and I could care less when they cock as long as they do.I could never see the advantage one way or the other, especially enough to change the way a rifle was originally designed. I've never done a 96 conversion. But I have used their kit on an enfield. I like the kit, but don't like the trigger. The fit and finish leaves alot to be desired compared to a timmey. -Don
Downwindtracker2
I ordered the kit with the trigger and a safety, today. I lose the side trigger block one.No great loss there. I guess in Sweden they had a side safety kit. It just blocks the end of the sear lever.I'll let you how the kit works out.
