the Wisner kit is the one to use. I use the chapman fixture.

Don Markey will likely answer, he has done many of these and also done a write up or two here I believe.

They list the addtional tooling needed in the info for the jig. Other than that you need to shim the bolt suppied with the jig to use Jim's wings. The jig is set up for chapman wings. The chapman's are a little cheaper but more work to install. The also aren't serrated or handened, but that allows you to finish it the way you like. I prefer the PME (wisner) wing unless I want the checker the edge of the lever.

I've only done 1 of the Chapman safeties but have installed several of the Wisners.

The Wiseners are definately easier and IMHO a better safety.

  • 4 weeks later...

1/8" x 3" slitting saw

arbor for saw

7/32" x 1" keyway cutter

#31 drill

#29 drill

or #21 for PME wings and to make drill guide

Lathe to make a spring offset drill guide (not required but alot easier)

6-48 tap

couple stones for a dremel to radius the pivot point of the shroud

I'm sure I'm missing something

A piece of 3/8 drill rod to make the plug.

I've never heard of the offset guide before, is that one of your improvements?
