ken98k
I blued and assembled this one yesterday. I know the stock is fugly, I had to cut off a cracked section, so its a couple inches short. I'll probably replace it in the near future. Yugo 24/47 receiver. 1903 Turk bolt body with Yugo firing pin, bolt sleeve, and cocking peice. (It has a standard mauser boltface) Bolt handle forged by Davis May. Norwegian Kongsberg barrel. Timney trigger. Wisner safety Bead blasted the receiver, bottom metal, and butt plate, Tasco World Class 3-9x with mil-dot reticle. Weaver 'standard type' base and low rings. VERY ACCURATE!! Rojelio
Nice group. Are those kongsberg barrels still available. If so, where can you get one and how much have they been running. What part of Alaska are you from? That looks pretty frigid. BTW, nice job on that pinched triggerguard. Rojelio

spec4 e4
Look and shot good. I would had before finishing the stock was an nose cap, to make it longer just an hair. But still look nice. Rob

But still look nice. Rob This whole project was basically an experiment. The 1903 turk bolt with yugo inards. I used the resin and hardener from an auto body fiberglass kit for bedding. Reshaping of the buttstock and the tang area. Beadblast finish on receiver and bottom metal. It's been a real learning experience. One of these days I'll get around to doing a plane old Mod 98. I think I've done 6 or 7 rifles now and still have not used a standard 98 receiver. Kenny
Ron J
I think it's cool. Why replace the stock? If a tip makes it the length you want, add it. Every milsurp stock I've seen had things mounted in it or big sling slots. Yours has nice shimmer in the grain. And a real "square" cross bolt - I'll bet installing one of those is tough. And it shoots like a house on fire. Learning experiences always pay off. Obviously yours are. Nice gun, Ken.
Brenden
I like the looks of that gun. A shorter stock looks good to me, it looks as if that gun is very well balanced from the photo's. And man, groups like that, what more can you ask for. Very well done. I love seeing a project come together and look and shoot that good. donmarkey
Seeing that it is cold and you don't have anything to do, you could cut that safety pivot screw down. Sorry I just had to say it, it was bothering me Kenny. -Don

Horsefly
You done good Kenny! If'n it were mine,I'd use a barrel band sling swivel, like safari rifles use,'cause I like the stock like it is,and the barrel band would look nice.Good work, and thanks for waiting for Santa to be out of town before you shot it.All those deer with big racks would have been tempting. ken98k
I wasn't happy with the way the stock came out so I did some mods. I added an ebony forend tip to get a little more length. Also I reworked the grip area slightly. The holes for the cross bolt were pretty ragged so I carved diamond shapes around them, then filled them with blackend epoxy.

Gun Parts and Sportmenasguide both carried the norwegian kongburg barrels. Just pulled mine out of the wrapper yesterday. Nice clean bore sharp rifling. Should make a fine project. The bolt will have to get reworked so as to clear the scope. But then everyone else will have to do the same thing. Will glas bed the receiver ring and first 1" of the barrel and some glass bedding on the receiver at the rear. Make up some kind of higher cheekpiece to accomodate the higher line of sight. i have a cherry vz24 stock that I've been sitting on just for a project. AzRednek
I really like the way you covered up the cross bolt. Have to admit though after seeing your pictures, I'm sure glad I live in Phoenix. Don't worry you can get even starting about July.
Bob58
That is what sporterizing is all about - swords into plowshares. ( It's just an expression... bears little resemblence to a farm implement.) I like the simple modifications.
