  1. I tried this a number of years ago with Kasenit, in the same way that I have hardened cold rolled steel, by following the directions on the can and then quenching the cocking piece in water. It eventually broke in service. The break showed a very rough, grainy surface. I probably got it too hot, but I am not really sure.

    H&r Mauser

I am working from memory here, but I believe that the older H & R Mausers (the Ultra Rifles) were on FN actions. More recently, they marketed one (the M-340???) on a MK X action.
  3. Semi- Is your turk a M-1903? If so, I have an excellent cond all matching 96 Swede, except for the stock, which is very nice full fiddleback, but is a non-match number. I bought it 20+ years ago to sporterize, but it is so crisp that I could never bring myself to touch it. Now I am glad that I didn't. If you have any interest, maybe we could work something out. Ken
  4. That is pretty amazing, isn't it? Both the 100+ years and the H & H Rifle. But I feel the same way. I prefer them to anything else. The more I learn about them, the better I like them.
  5. Don, Beautiful work! It occurs to me that you have the skills and equipment required to shorten a M98, IF you were so inclined... Ken

    G 33/40

Hi Ken98K, It was bid up, but not too much. I have never actually seen a G.33/40 action (except in photos), so I am really looking forward to this one. If you had not posted here, I think I probably would have missed it. Thanks! Ken
  8. Hi Don, It was the Birch Run show on 1/10. It was very well attended, but I didn't find much else of interest, except an OK Yugo 24/47. I was at the Cheb. show (last fall, I think...) and it was pretty small. I didn't find anything I couldn't live without. Maybe it will be better in May. Ken
  9. I picked up a really crisp one at a gun show last month. It is marked with a z inside a circle underneath the root of the bolt handle, on the safety wing, extractor collar and the cocking piece, and is also marked with the Turkish crescent moon. A Czech bolt that went to Turkey? Anyway, I bought it for $40.00, and was happy.
  10. Pretty wood, beautiful bolt handle job, nicely done rifle!

    G 33/40

Thanks for the tip! I have been looking for one at a reasonable price. Not sure how I missed this one, but I did. Hope it doesn't get bid up too high. Ken
  12. Maybe a M98a? Marked "Kar 98" on left rcvr. wall? I have one made in Erfurt that was shortened for a .250 Sav., and I like it. But supposed to be limited to low pressure rounds because of the very thin ring. Ken
  13. I am no expert, but I think the screw spacing and bottom metal are interchamgable with a std. M98. The bolt, however, is different, the lugs extend farther forward, more like a M96.
