  1. Yes, by the time you get the shank to .980" all the threads will be gone on the 1.10" large ring shank. I've done it many times!!! Thanks, Davis.
  2. Here in Kansas deer season runs Nov. 30--Dec. 11. Resident tag cost $30.00. You can buy a Whitetail either sex tag over the counter., or put in for the any deer tag draw. The any deer tag is good for either sex in either a Mule deer or Whitetail. My son drew a any deer tag this year, and I have the either sex Whitetail tag. We have been watching a trophy class 7X7 mule deer the past couple of weeks. I hope he gets it!!! This is my favorite time of the year, and we take this VERY serious!!!! You won't find me in the shop, or at home when the season starts. We have shot a lot of deer in the past years, and we pass on a lot of little deer. Thanks, and good luck in your hunts, Davis.
  3. Jerry, I have either reamer if you need to use it. 35 Whelen or 338-06. Thanks, Davis.
  4. LEAST MODIFICATIONS!!! 35 Whelen 1st pick(easy to find factory ammo if you don't reload), The 338-06 would be my 1st pick if you reload. The .338 bullets have a better sectional density for better penetration, and pobably more bullets to pick from than the .358 caliber. The 225 gr, bullet in the 338-06 is a great penetrater. You need all you can get with these animals!!!! Thanks, Davis.
  5. Been shooting the 300 WBY for years. Mine is a Winchester Mod. 70 Stainless in control round feed in 300 WBY caliber. This is factory, and they don't make this caliber anymore. I use it for elk and deer with a 190 gr. bullet going around 3400 fps. It use to kick the hell out of me until I cut the stock down to fit, and installed the pachmayer pad. Now I can't hardly feel it!!! Great flat round. In the flat country of Kansas, it works great. I also bought the 7mm STW in the same rifle(they quit making that caliber also) to match. Don't know why, the 300 WBY will do everything the 7mm STW and more. Just couldn't pass up the matching rifle. I'm a Winchester Mod 70 fan in a factory rifle. Thanks, Davis.
  6. Thanks Z for the address, been needing a .323" indicator rod for some time now. Maybe I can get one from them. Thanks, Davis.
  7. Times have changed!!! I agree with fritz, take me back too!!!! I was a freshman in high school when I built my first rifle. Yes, I said rifle in school!!! We had a gunsmithing class in school, and all 9 of us built a rifle out of Mauser actions. 1 hour a day. We did the whole nine yards, hot bluing and all. Can you imagine kids doing that today, or should I say, can you imagine parents letting kids do that today!!! Where did we all go wrong?? Why did we let this happen!!! If we only knew!!! It's a shame, and I'm afraid it's toooo late!!!!!! Davis.
  8. I have 2 Russian 1943 1891/59's. I like these the best. Mauser 98's are my favorite. Thanks, Davis.
  9. My pick is the 25-06 for the medium rifle, you already have the .270. Plus you can use the 75 gr. V-max in the 25-06 and this makes a great coyote stopper. 120 gr. in the 25-06 will work great on sheep and deer. My pick for the heavy rifle is the 35 Whelen. 250 grainers @ 2650fps out of mine is a no brainer, if the feedrails aren't to wide!! Both calibers have factory ammo!!! Thanks, Davis.
  10. I have a German exchange student(girl) living with me for 3 weeks. I asked her what kind of beer is the best, or what kind do you all like the best. She said Becks beer mixed with sprite. I have never heard of this mixture, but all the german students love it. I guess I'll have to try it. Can't imagine any beer mixed with sprite!!!! They only have to be 16 to drink beer in Germany!!! The thing that blew my mind the most about these students is, they couldn't tell me what kind of rifle I showed them. It was a German 98!! Go figure!! Thanks, Davis.
