I Made A Stand Today At Work

Back at the end of May we all got an email announcing it was, "87 days until Women's Equality Day." I wrote the public affairs lady back and said that there is not one male nurse leader in the hospital. One week later she wrote back and wrote, "Comment noted." This morning in the hospital newsletter it was announced again. This time there was a quote from Bella Abzug: "Women will not simply be mainstreamed into the polluted stream. Women are changing the stream, making it clean and green and safe for all - every gender, race, creed, sexual orientation, age, and ability." I was insulted as a man. Then I saw the signature on the email of the public relations woman, something to the effect that women clear mens' vision. I wrote back that my wife and I read it, and it was bashing men, just like is popular in colleges and in the media. When is our day of equality? She sent me back a flippant answer that she said these things to provoke conversation! I wrote EEO office. Well, seems I wasn't the only one to object, and this womans' pinfeathers are now clipped. Everything of this sort must now be previewed by EO office before sending it out. The email was pulled back (too late for most of us).

I dont know FC; since a womans reproduction organs are on the inside it seems to me they have special powers. Or at least that's how i'm told it works.

Don't know if I can finish this, appears as I have a bad modem.

I you file a formal EEO complaint they are required by law to do an investigation, advise you of the findings and give you the details of the next step if you're not satisfied with EEO's findings. The EEO rep get their brownie points by settling the issue at the lowest level. Don't expect a lot of cooperation from EEO but lean on them for the process of taking it to the next level. Every and I mean every EEO rep I dealt with was a minority. With two exceptions they were all over weight black women.

Start keeping a daily log of anything that might be a possible reprisal. Dirty looks, saying good morning to everybody except you, pretending they don't hear you and so on. They may try to turn co workers against you, keep track of it. Be careful of women claiming you make or made sexual innuendos. Keep track of whom is promoted and would should have got it.

Wish I could be more help. I handled EEO complaints at the lowest level and passed them on to higher ups in the union. I was only aware of one white guy prevailing but wasn't involved. A white retired Marine Lt Colonel with numerous credentials was passed over for a black guy that got his high school GED in his 30's, was previously disciplined for sick leave abuse and his English skills were pathetic. I was told but don't know for sure, the black guy had a relative in mgmt.

I'll watch my 6:00.

Best advice I can give is to keep notes of whom said what, who may have heard it, date and time. Be cautious of anybody siding with you, being your friend and trying to lead you into a conversation about your complaint. The so called friend may have been promised a promotion, favorable transfer or other favors in return.

I've seen it happen, mgmt turning co workers against the aggrieved employee. Without naming names mgmt might for example. "I'd really like to give you the days off but just can't do it because of EEO complaints". I wasn't involved but was aware of three people being promised favorable treatment and promotions. When mgmt didn't deliver TSHTF. Employee was reinstated, back pay awarded X 2. Strangely the perpetrator behind it all got a high level promotion.

What's funny is the day this happened the boss lady came by and asked what was going on? I said, "I'm just being Tony." The Navy Reserve nurse guy I work with choked on his banana!

I don't think anything bad will come of it.

My guess, she made a note of what you said and keeps it in what the Feds refer to as personal notes. Either the courts or through binding arbitration you do not have access to the personal notes a supervisor keeps on employees. If she is to share the notes with anybody you have a right to see them but it will be dam near impossible to get them using a FOI request.

In my career I've gotten six people more important than me fired. History is on my side. I'm sorry about how cocky this sounds.

Don't worry about it especially if they deserved it. I only got one over the top horny supervisor removed but caused some demotions and stuck a thorn in the side of several that blamed me for being passed over for a promotion or transfer. My pet peeve were bold faced liars. I had to deal with a few seeking revenge but they never succeeded.
