#3 Common Psychiatric Drug Induces “Neurotransmitter Hijacking”

Antidepressants strive to increase the levels of a “coping” molecule known as serotonin in the brain. It supposedly helps us find happiness when it’s covered in an avalanche of nastiness. But, it’s never been proven. Still, the drugs attempt to boost serotonin by “selectively” stopping the “reuptake” among brain cells. This is where the whole SSRI acronym came from—“selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor.” It’s a slick name, but a stupid idea. Nothing is selective in the body.

While trying to block the reuptake of serotonin, antidepressants can also prevent its release and that of another brain compound known as dopamine. The areas of the brain responsible for release and reuptake of these neurotransmitters are so damn similar (after all, they work on the same molecule) that an antidepressant drug isn’t smart enough to understand which one it is supposed to work on. So it does what any dumb drug would do, it blocks both. That’s why users usually carry a glassy stare in their eye. Fully under the psychiatric spell, they’ve tuned out.

Deep sadness, fear, anger and aggression can set in over time. By removing serotonin and dopamine from the brain, long-term antidepressant users can’t find or feel happiness. Instead, they may become buried in the avalanche of nastiness. And if you can’t find or feel happiness in life, what’s the point? What’s going to stop you from snapping your own neck or spraying bullets on your classmates? Not much when you live in your own personal antidepressant hell.

Think this is all opinion?

According to the FDA, antidepressants can cause suicidal thoughts and behavior, worsening depression, anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, irritability, hostility, impulsivity, aggression, psychotic episodes and violence. Some even cause homicidal ideation according to the manufacturers. Many long-term antidepressant users will tell you they no longer feel normal emotions—they’re dumb, like zombies.

But the side effects of these drugs aren’t limited to hijacking your feelings and emotional state, causing violent and psychotic states. Physical side effects occur too and include abnormal bleeding, birth defects, heart attack, seizures and sudden death. Over one hundred and seventy drug regulatory warnings and studies have been issued on antidepressants, to sound the alarm on these side effects.

While people can suffer miserably from emotional or mental duress that can hinder their lifestyle, the pseudo-science of psychiatry has yet to solve any of these problems, and in fact only contributes to poor health as seen by the wide array of side effects. In place of psychiatric pills start every other day with exercise, and get plenty of sunshine. Supplement your diet with L-tryptophan and whey isolate protein. Before bed each night, take Mother Nature’s knockout pill, valerian. Combined, these will help your body produce its own “antidepressant compounds” throughout the day. Minimize sugar and alcohol, which put a monkey-wrench into this innate protective mechanism.

I hate those drugs.

people used to try and give them to some of my wolf children. In 25 years I never saw the need for them.

Of course JH kids are a PIA that is natural for that stage. If the teacher cannot deal with that without drugging the kids, the teacher has no place in the classroom.

I think that they are bad for adults as well.

And that is only one class of drugs.

Most of the drugs that are pushed these days have side affects that are worse than the problem they are prescribed to treat. (Remember George Carlin's skit?)

But, then you can always take another drug to cover up that side affect.

Then look at the coctail of drugs that your liver has to sort out if you are the typical person over 50 or 60.

Your MD will really look at you funny if you tell them you take no meds.

I don't like them but there has to be a benefit for most people taking them. I deleted my 1970's horror story because it probably is the exception to the rule and there has likely been major improvements since. With medical people on this board it is better to leave this discussion for the pro's and me as a lay person go back to discussing guns. I do regret bringing it up.

Karl, you are not seeing the bigger picture. You may be seeing a few cases where they were not appropriately prescribed. I won't get into the whole child thing. Some people are seriously messed up in the head, and they can't get out of it themselves. Some drugs will allow them to climb out of the hole they have dug and get on with their lives. Just as you can't say "all anti-depressant usage is bad" as the article you quoted implies, you can't say that all of the usage is good either. Yes, there are problems, but it is not a yes-no solution.

Karl for years I mistrusted Drs and drug companies. I could write some real horror stories about one drug co, drug company reps and a few crooked Drs. I had a real paradigm shift after an arrogant, man hating dyke Oncologist and an experimental drug saved my life. I now feel confident being treated by an arrogant Dr as they are obviously smarter than me. I believe Drs and drug co's simply know more than I do and what they are doing manufacturing and prescribing antidepressants.

Karl I do agree with what you say about teachers. Teacher of my former step son called me and said "he needs to be on Ritalyn". I literally spanked the teacher for the lack of a better phrase. Every dirty trick I learned from years as a union leader for stirring up the pot and creating mounds of paperwork was pulled out of the hat. The teacher, the son of a celebrity despite having the support of his immediate higher ups were running for cover after I began my letter writing campaign accusing him of playing Dr and school officials defending him.

My step son was a punk trouble maker, wound up in prison after high school but there was no way I was going to drug up an eleven year old to make the teacher's job easier.
