  1. Great Posts!!!! I guess my year was successful,,,,,,,, I never squeezed a trigger. I saw a total of 14 deer, 3 were bucks. But none were what I was looking for. That's OK though,,,,,, I'm not out there "JUST" to shoot. I like being out there. If I never shoot another one,,,,,, it'll be alright. I've shot enough,,,,, now it's my sons turn. Thanks again for the posts and pics. Rojelio,,,,,, I'd have dropped that deer too. That's what I'm holding out for.
  2. As deer season is wrapping up across the country,,,, I was wondering how many of you took game with your sporters this year??? Please share pics. Jay
  3. By the way,,,,,,, why can't I get an avatar to show?? I've tried and tried,,,, proper sizing and everything. I figure there must be some setting that I'm missing somewhere. Jay
  4. I got my first South Carolina earlier this year. Not with a sporter though, Vanguard in 308. Congrats on yours Clemson.
  5. I can see the end of my first sporter in sight now,,, sorta. My question is,,,, how to remove the rear sight and base to which it is mounted. Clearly the sight is held on with a pin,,, but is the base soldered to the barrel?? If so, then I should simply heat and remove I guess. What will this leave me,,,,, a nasty spot of solder left on the barrel?? What is the process of removing residual solder. This is a critical decision for me. I originally planned a iron sighted gun (peep sight). If I leave the base on, I can later install a scout mount. If I take it off,,, I ruin an already nice blue job. Thoughts???? Jay
  6. Good Job!! I like the looks of that stock also!

10-4 Guys!! I dug around some more last night looking for pressure values. Your numbers are actually higher than I found. 7X57 = SAAMI average was 46,000 While this would be an EASY number to stay under if reloading the 7-08, factory loads would for sure screw the pooch. And I cannot guareentee that my boy would ONLY shoot reloads throughout his life. And what if he gave it to his child one day,,,,,,,,,, and the grandkid loaded some factory stuff in it????? Nope, I can't risk all that. Was a nice thought though. Would have had some meaning to it.

I'm thinking of getting my 14 year old son a project gun. I am trying to teach him to do things for himself. Carpentry, welding, auto repair and such. Anyway, this would be right up his alley. He was born on July 8, 1993. (07/08/93) So that got me to thinking,,,,,,,,( dangerous I know) could a Spanish M93 handle the 7-08 cartridge? If so, we could build a "7-08-93" to commemorate his birthday. I gotta dig around and find some pressure values for comparison, but thought I'd start by posting here. Any opinions??
  9. What is the "De Haas" book??

    Short List?

OK, I just got a PM from the guy after I requested more info. He says it's cock on open. Says it a BRNO 23 or 24. I can get it for a hundred bucks, unregistered. Would this be a good buy. Anybody got a picture of one sported?

    Short List?

What type of Mausers are cock on open?? I keep running across stuff on line that is priced cheap, but I don't have a clue what it really is. And usually the owner doesn't either. Example: I have a guy wanting to sell me a Chezk 8mm Mauser, and that's all he knows.
  13. Guess I've just lost it??????
  14. Well after sleeping on it, I still feel like something is out of synch. I know that the gun will fire with the safety to the right. I'm positive that it was working that way when I first screwed the assembly back together yesterday afternoon. Come on guys, surely I can't be the first to run into this???
  15. Maybe I'm losing it???? I just ran across an old picture of the gun and it is in the uncocked position with the safety all the way left.
