spec4 e4
Boy did I get lucky with CMP this time around. I place my order in the snail mail on Monday before the the release of the IHC. Since I am a truck driver and had very little hope of getting one, I had my hope low. But got an DBU e mail Tuesday with my 2nd choice. So I got my grand slam done. It is setting at the UPS store now waiting for me to get it. Oh the agony. Rob

spec4 e4
An M1 Garand that was made by International Harvester and from the CMP. Mine has the serial number of 503XXXX which was made in 1956 Rob

Dr.Hess
I think mine was about $350, which would be about $700 in today's dollars, and had no case. Just vacuum sealed to a piece of cardboard. What's a "grand slam?"
AzRednek
I tried getting one from the original Division of Civilian Marksmanship a short time after Clinton was elected. Myself and a few others I participated with at the qualification shoot all gave up. Every time we sent them paperwork it came back as the rules were changed almost daily. I finally threw in the towel after they demanded copies of my driver's license and Social Security card. The copies were returned along with a letter saying we had to send originals. Nothing in the letter on when they would be returned. One of my now deceased shooting buds. One I've mentioned here before that had the foresight to invest in Class 3 machineguns in the 70's through early 80's. 1950's Corvettes also. His dad drilled each and every rear sight for the IHC M-1's. The job gave his dad a draft exemption during WW2. Even the 50's M-1's were assembled with rear sights IHC had left over from the wartime production. Congrats Rob, you did well.
spec4 e4
Thanks will post pictures when I get home. Now I have an SA, HRA, WRA, and now a IHC. Grand Slam done. A Grand Slam Is When You Have All Of The Makers That MA DE That Model Of Rifle. Thinking about an international grand slam. Rob
AzRednek
Rob, just in case you don't already know. International Harvester is nick-named Corn Binder. The moniker applies to everything from IHC including big rigs, McCormick tractors, Scouts to a half ton pick-up. Don't know the origin but it was something I learned while working in auto parts. When IHC made big rig tractors I believe with Fruehauf trailers the nick name was often shortened to as Binder. Have to admit I'm somewhat jealous of your Grand Slam. I only have one M-1 rifle, a 50's SA. I traded an all matching 09 Argie sniper rifle for it about 15 years ago. If CMP is still selling the Greek ammo on M-1 clips. It is good stuff although a bit pricey. J&G Sales told me that it is sold as non-corrosive but some made before a date I can't recall was as the sales rep told me "mildly corrosive". What ever year it was the change over took place mid year. If you can determine the year, treat it all as corrosive and clean appropriately. About 10% of my Greek 06 brass was not reloadable due to loose primer pockets. Hang on to any M-1 clips, nowadays they can fetch as much a 2 bucks a piece. spec4 e4
Az, I know what you mean about the clips. I save everyone I have. Thinking about buy a few new ones from CMP but that's going to have to wait till after I come back from vacation in July. Lol. Rob
karlunity
Some one told me that the Italians had converted the M1 to use magazines...if that is so, you might look into that. karl

The after-market Tanker's Garand was a copy of the Italian rifle.
