Weaver Bases

Recommended Posts

Does anyone make a steel Weaver style base that fits the rear bridge of a Mauser and does not require the charger hump ground off? I am not at all interested in the traditional twist mount front/windage screw rear arrangement and so far, my search has turned up empty.

I wish to aquire such a base for a future project that I want to retain the charger hump and the Weaver ring's ability to remove/replace the scope as needed.

Thanks,

Jason

Weaver does indeed make the two piece bases in steel, and I much prefer them.... If you need pics I can provide, but not till tomorrow. LMK . MV

Guys, I found them! Weaver Grand Slam bases; all steel and I think they'll be just what I was looking for.

I now feel stupid for posting this question early since I found what I needed...but perhaps someone else will benefit from this. FWIW, MidwayUSA as I discovered not long after posting this, sells the bases seperately for $10 a piece. I need part #'s S45 and S46 and I think I can make those work.

Kenak, if you want to post pictures, please do. I'd love to see what they look like installed.

Thanks all,

Jason

Jason,

The Grand slam bases are essentially the same as their aluminum ones. They both require charger hump removal or at the least alteration of the base to allow use with the hump.

I know that steel is stronger than aluminium. In this application what would the discernable benefit be. I have not used either, but I have pondered this. I like the idea of $25 scope mounting instead of $50 for regular Leupold.
