Dr.Hess
Just got back from The Big Gun Show, Wannamaker in Tulsa. I wasn't going to go if the Anti-Christ had won. I figgered if she did, prices would be through the roof and the place would be jammed. Well, it was pretty jammed anyway. Prices are up versus a couple years ago, but not through the roof. Some Observations: There's still a few MilSurp Mausers out there. A nice looking 98 in 8mm will run you $375-400-ish for something like a Yugo. I saw a few Turks for $200 that look pretty worn. Those would have been $60 guns 20 years ago. Then there were the ones where people were asking thousands for. I don't see it. Looks like a K98 to me. Seems that Lugers start at $1250. I know nothing about them except that it is easy to get ripped off on "special" ones. 1911's were all over the place. Anything old school Colt (Series 70 and back) was about a thousand, $1200 starting. Newer Colts were a couple hundred less. Saw some Kimbers for around $1000. Lever actions everywhere. Started in the 800 range, except for like Marlin 30-30's, where were in the low 300's. Even a Winchester 22LR was close to a thousand. Saw a few original Henry 44 Rimfire's. Ten large. Lots of black rifles, but I think fewer as a percentage than prior shows (I was last there about 2 years ago). AR15 Uppers generally went for like $400-500, but I did see one place selling complete uppers for about $275. They were busy. Several Thompson "tommy guns," semi auto. They wanted about what you could buy one new for at Cabellas. A lot of happy, relaxed people around. Not much tension. "God Bless America" came on the sound system and the entire 10.5 acres shut down and listened. Lots of tears. I was glad to see some black people walking around, getting into the scene. Middle class people, fathers and sons, whole families. A few vendors. More people owning guns and exercising their God Given right is good for the entire country. They may even figure out that someone telling them they don't have that right may not have their best interest at heart. Got there at 0815, left at 1630. I walked 99% of the show. No idea how many miles that is. I'm beat.

FC
Prices will fall. Wow, that's a huge gun show!
Dr.Hess
For a gun guy, I would consider that show to be a "bucket list" item. It is truly amazing. I used to go to the big show in Houston, 2K tables in the Astrodome. I thought it was the biggest in the world. This one is half again bigger. I don't think there was an empty table there. We get a room the night before so we don't have to drive in and back in 1 day. It's 120 miles from here. I'm whooped this morning. I should do teh maths on the distance. I think they published it somewhere, but it's miles of tables.
Dr.Hess
The powder shortage appears to be over. It was everywhere and not marked way up. About the same price as mail order but no hazmat fees. Plenty of ammo too, but 22 was still pricey.
Racepres
Plenty of ammo too, but 22 was still pricey. Matters not to me...my 222 loaded with cast boolits works at least as well,,and can be anything from sub-sonic to Giddyup!!! Cheaper also!!!! AzRednek
I really miss the Great Southwestern Gun Show. At the time it was the largest in the nation. It ended after a move by the LA county board of governors saved California from all crime by not allowing the fairgrounds have gun shows. Two friends of mine used to make thousands there selling military surplus. Watched my friend turn down a 10 grand cash offer from a small time actor for his Russian sniper rifle. Racepres
I take it no one knows much about the Cave City, KY show??? Worth stopping at???
Dr.Hess
KY is a bit far for me. I mean, I would drive that far for the Tulsa show, but that's just because it's The Big One. Mosins were selling for around 200 in reasonable shape. Better condition than the $200 Turks, anyway. The $200 Turks had hints of where the blueing used to be.
