Anybody Heard Of 45Hp Ammo, Not Acp

Got this from an email from J&G. The ad says it will not function in 45ACP pistols but will work in 45ACP chambered revolvers using moon clips. In a 1,000 rd purchase it will cost me about 16 cents per round, about 90 minutes of drive time each way to and from J&G and gas. Using store-bought jacketed projectiles I can't hand load that cheap. I have three S&W revolvers chambered in 45ACP, dozens of moon clips and could put the ammo to good use.

The down sides is J&G. In their show room my plastic wants to jump out of my wallet. Rarely have I been in and out of there without making some impulse purchases I later regret. The 45HP brass is 1 MM shorter than standard ACP so it would be a PIA keeping it separated. I'm not sure about this HP ammo but do know factory 45ACP there is a slight bit of cement or sealant holding the slug in place making it difficult to pull for components.

From what the ad says. The over all length is longer than standard ACP to prevent it being used in a 45 ACP chamber. Possibly it might work nudging the slug in deeper using a hand loading press. With the brass just a single MM shorter. If the slug were to be pushed into the brass to over all ACP length. I wonder if something like a 1911 with an inertia driven firing pin would strike the primer hard or deep enough to ignite??

Best of all the ammo deal gives me an excuse to leave Phoenix and spend time at a higher altitude in pine country and cooler temps.

Never heard of it. From the description, the OAL is the same as 45ACP, not longer. The brass is 1mm shorter so if you try to chamber it in a 45ACP chamber, it will fall in "too far." I think that it would be good for moon clip revolvers, like they said, or pulling the bullets and powder. I don't think it's good for anything else. Cheap, though.

Have you tried doing a "plunk" test? Dropping a round into a 1911 barrel to see how far they actually go in? Have you measured a couple of them to see how long they actually are?

I would try that, and then try one to see if they will actually shoot in a 1911. The extractor may hold them tight enough so they won't drop in too far, and allow the firing pin to hit.

I would think that they would be worth it for the components. If they are boxer primed, you can even use those over if they are the same as standard ACP brass. The fact that you have revolvers and moon clips to use it as is, should seal the deal. Hard to tell if they used a sealant on them from the pics.

I'm tempted to spring for a thousand rds but I'm still some what hesitant as I can't find anything about the 45 HP in a net search. I'm thinking that maybe Privi screwed up a production run of 45 GAP. I'd feel better about it if something turned up in a net search.

I've had good luck with Privi Partizan 9MM Makarov, 380 and 45 ACP ammo over the past 5 or so years. Not any more or less accurate than other brands of factory ammo and my only complaints are their 45 ACP primer pockets are a bit tight and they opted to use a small instead of large pistol primer like Winchester. I haven't hand loaded any of their 9 Mak or 380 yet. The big plus for Privi ammo is their low price. Usually about the same cost or a buck or two at most more than steel cased Wolf brand. Privi uses boxer primed brass and burns considerably cleaner compared to Wolf or other cheapie steel cased ammo. According to J&G's ad, the Privi uses a lead core jacketed slug. I've heard but can't say by any personal experience that most Rusky and East European bullets are made with a soft steel core instead of lead. Supposedly the soft steel bullet cores shorten barrel life.

Anyhow if I can up off my lazy ass and drive to J&G in Prescott I'll probably grab a case of the HP. Hopefully I can get in and out of J&G without any new toys!!
