T/C Hunter bullets and Pyrodex powder works best for me.Start out with about 80grs. of powder.I wouldn't go over 90.I have 3 front loaders, and all 3 start shooting all over the target when max recomended loads are reached,so I back off 5 grains at a time until I find the sweet spot.If you can, use the primer caps in a red can that's German,Rottenwemershien(aint no way I can spell it,but you'll know when you see them). They're a little hotter than Remington or T/C.You'll need no.11's.If and when you start hunting with your front stuffer, you might look at a primer adapter that lets you use large rifle primers.I think they'll shoot a ball out of the barrel with no powder in it.Clean the barrel of all traces of oil, fire a couple caps to make sure the nipple is open into the barrel, pour 80 grains of powder down barrel, push a bullet in as far as you can by hand, then ram it on down on top of the powder.Re-prime and shoot.Clean the hell out of your gun after every trip to the range.I don't do the complete disassemble in the bathtub with hot soapy water like all the books say to do.I use Hoppes #9,and cheap rubbing alcohol from Dollar General. After cleaning with Hoppes and all patches come out clean, hold a finger over the primer nipple, pour the barrel about half full of alcohol, and slosh it back and forth, letting some run out the nipple hole, and pour the rest out. This may sound like a lot of trouble, but try real blackpowder the purist claim is the only powder, and you'll go back to Pyrodex. There's some new powder my buddies use that they claim you can shoot 100 times without cleaning, and it's smokeless, and it takes a lot of time out of cleaning. It started out as Clean Shot, but I think it changed it's name to American Powder.I'll look it up later.I have some Clean shot, but it takes so long to use up a pound of Pyrodex,it may be too old by now.Good luck and have fun. After Obama's people get done getting our guns,muzzle-loaders may be the only guns left, but I aint counting on them stopping there either. If you have any more questions, just holler, and I'll at least try to find you an answer. Jerry

Thanks for the info. I'll try to pick this stuff up this weekend.

I had one a few years ago and gave it to my son. I was shooting it with three 50 gr Triple 7 pellets with a round ball and two pellets with mini-balls. Using recoil as a judge compared with a 100 gr load of real black powder it felt just a bit hot using three pellets with the mini-ball. The mini-ball was cast from a Lee brand mold, I don't recall the weight.
