walrus
Does anyone recognize this tool? I'm guessing that it's something a gunsmith would use since I saw it in an auction that had a lot of firearm related equipment. unknown_1.pdf
AzRednek
DON'T OPEN IT an unknown PDF file instead of a jpg from somebody with a single post is highly suspect. Moderator if possible remove it.
Dr.Hess
The PDF is OK. Here it is converted to a JPG. walrus, we're a little "gun shy," so to speak, around here. We have a history of spammer bombardment. Welcome to the board. I take it all those pieces fit together somehow? Looks like there's a plumb bob there at least. Dr.Hess
The thing in the front looks to be some kind of reamer. The thing with the ears looks to me to be some type of collet. What's the scale? A pic with a ruler or coin and some different angles would help.
walrus
Sorry. Thought that PDFs were preferred. I'm used to working with PDFs, not JPGs. Here a pic in its case with a scale alongside. Not too big whatever it is.
Dr.Hess
That one part that I thought was a reamer, I don't think so. I think there are some hold down fingers on that plate that looked like the cutting parts to me. So, not a reamer. I have not seen any gunsmithing tools that look like that. Not that I've seen a lot of them. So, besides the plumb bob, I dunno.
AzRednek
Guess I owe an apology to Walrus. I've been a bit jumpy since getting hammered by pop-ups and voice commercials after clicking on a local gun ad. The tube with the knurled knob looks like a M-1 Carbine sling oilier. The large tool looks like a surveyor's plumb. The tool with the wing nut if it were bigger looks like a pipe straightener. I haven't seen one since the late 60's. It was used to iron out dings in car exhaust and muffler pipes. Sorry again for being a bit quick on the draw over the pdf.
AzRednek
The tool that looks like a reamer with the knurled knob looks similar to the top of a 22RF mag tube. I pulled one apart in the early 70's and it looks some what similar. Just been to many years to recall exactly how the knob attached to the tube but sure looks like it. Doble Troble
The cone-shaped piece could be a dead center for a lathe...
