Small Ring 98's Strengths & Weakness's

I was wondering what safe & sane uses you could use a small ring 98 for and for that matter when a large ring is ground

down to remove a crest or pitting.

When I say small ring 98 I mean an OD of about 1.33 with 1.1 threading.

Being a reasonable  person, I wouldn't think of trying to make a magnum out of such a receiver.

They have been used as a battle rifle with the 8 X 57 so I'm wondering if they are suitable for ' 06' based cartirdges

like .25, .270, .30, .338, and 35 Weelan.

If not, what are they suitable for?

Thanks

Tinker

I think I would stick with 257 Roberts, 7x57 Mauser, 6.5x55 Mauser, 300 Savage, 250 Savage or similar, low pressure but enormously useable cartridges. The receiver walls on those small ring -- large thread receivers is very, very thin. One of the fellows in my class is currently building a 257 Roberts on a Polish small ring receiver.
