Employment Update.

I figured it was time to give you guy's an update on my employment status. I got a job with Burlington stores, formerly Burlington coat factory. It's an Assistant Store Managers position. I actually started with them on Aug.28th. I hate it! I still keep interviewing for shipping, receiving and logistics positions. I have turned down a few offer that are worse than what I have with Burlington. The only positive is that I was able to bank 9 weeks of severance pay. I've got several friends that are still looking. Their severance is almost gone and nothing yet. All are great people. They had more years in with Bed Bath and Beyond than I did, 15 and 20 years. I have to be thankful for getting something as fast as I did. I have no time for family and the Christmas season hasn't even started yet. I'll keep looking and interviewing. I can't do the full retail thing anymore.

I understand. As I tell my wife and co-workers, they don't pay you for the work. They pay you to put up with the B.S.

I see a guy at the local wally world in produce. He's mid to late 60's. Worked as what he describes as a "pooper scooper" for the VA for a few decades. Nurses assistant or something. Anyway, he does produce at a wally world now. He was saying that they hired a new kid just out of college and after a couple months, they promoted him to assistant manager. He told the kid they would run him into the ground and that's exactly what they proceeded to do.

On the other hand, a store manager at a wally world make more money than a typical Family Practice physician.

Its sad the way employment in this country has turned. Trump wants to make it better but between the Republican leadership, John McCain and the Democrats they are doing everything in their power to Stop Trump from restoring our country and bringing back good decent jobs

As a little foot note I am no longer able to work due to health reasons so the fact you can still work is a blessing.

Any job that pays the bills and a bit left over IS better than no job.

Good luck sir

You're right on with that!! Best of all it is the pride of having a job and not sponging of the govt teat. After my battle with Cancer and going on disability. No more new cars in my lifetime and my decision to either add a room or buy another house were no longer a consideration.

As a little foot note I am no longer able to work due to health reasons so the fact you can still work is a blessing. On the other hand, a store manager at a wally world make more money than a typical Family Practice physician.

A shoe string relative (cousin of my cousin's wife) has managed a Wal-Mart, Kmart and another biggie back east. He told me at a wedding the Mart's managers usually last 2-3 years before being canned or burned out and quit. His claim, the corporate heads feel the store managers lose their aggressiveness, willingness to put in long hours often 6-7 days a week and try to settle into having a comfortable job.

He told me Wally's did a big turn around with managers and employees after the founder died and the daughter ran took it over.. He claimed Wal-Mart's policy toward employees is not what you pay them, its what managers promise them in the future. Kmart shelled out big bucks after being exposed by 60 Minutes and a class action caught up to them. They were canning many long term employees a few weeks and in some cases just days before they were entitled to a company funded pension.

I know the feeling well but I no longer feel guilty about it. If you paid into Social Security and are now reaping the benefits. Its something you paid for and deserve, not like something for nothing welfare leeches.

I paid into the Federal Civil Service Retirement System for a lot of years. For years the system was completely self funded with a billion (with a B surplus. The feds decided they wanted that surplus money, put it into the general fund, persuaded many current employees into Social Security with a nice chunk of change at retirement and new employees were put into Social Security. I'm fortunate that I opted to stay in the original CSRS but now myself and others have to rely on Congress annually to keep it funded. I was really surprised to see the monthly payment in my bank account when Obozo shut down the govt.

I'd give my right nut to be healthy and back to work. Due to my larger than average size I was able to lie about my age and got my first real job washing dishes at 13. Been working since. Not just the boredom, health not getting better, don't know if and when the Cancer bug might bite again. I now have to pay to have work done on my rentals. About a month ago after months of spine and joint injections and lower back and neck nerve burns. I embarrassingly had to pay a wet 25 bucks to change 6 spark plugs. At least I'm blessed to still be mobile. After a couple of weeks using a walker to get around I'm back to using a cane. I even made it to the outdoor range yesterday. Didn't last long but it felt good getting in the heat, (yes it was 94) wiping sweat beads of my shooting glasses and not shooting worth a tinker's dam.

Sorry guys!! Caught myself doing another long rant again.

I was thinking this morning what my mentality would be if I hadn't found another job (which was looking likely), vs. working and having money, and a moderately respected position. I don't want to be like the smelly, stringy guys who live at the mission, some dump of a trailer, or on the street.

My hearing is really crummy. My days in the world of employment are numbered.

I'm the oldest in my office, in a young man's area, by at 5 years. How much longer can I go on? Dunno. Fortunately, my skill set is such that I'm employable, so as long as the direct deposits keep coming in, I'll keep driving up here.

I dont get SS. I just want my health back.

No reason to not look into it. If dopers and alkies can claim it as a disability and collect. No reason not to take advantage of it for poor health. I had the misfortune to have to represent a postal employee that was caught with his hands in the cookie jar. I persuaded him to resign after being offered in writing not to prosecute if he quit. He later was able to collect SS disability claiming severe depression over losing his job and his wife a short time later. I was told by a USPS mgr but can't say for sure its truthful. The thief also claimed to SS to suffer from kleptomania making employment impossible. My impression of him, he was doing meth or some other drug.

Doc as long as you have the degree you're employable. May not make the big bucks of a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon but not to likely you'll ever go to bed hungry or have to hitch hike to the grocery store.

Before his death my brother's insurance co used to retain the services of Dr's to do a pretty thorough physical and lead back ground investigations on potential 6 and 7 figure life insurance policies. Brother claimed his sharpest MD was 84 years old. I think the other MD's he preferred were all retired, just trying to pick up a few bucks and took it as a challenge to expose possible fraud.

According to my brother. The younger Dr's weren't keen on picking up on lies and fraud. They might spend 30-45 minutes, bill for 2 or 3 hours and had no interest in working with private dicks to look into the client's lifestyle. In my brother's opinion the younger active Dr's were anxious to pass along a clean bill of health fearing possible liability or trying to impress and gain wealthy clientele.
