  1. My thoughts keep going back to something I have discussed and tossed around with a couple of gunsmiths. My idea is a 6.5 based on the .280 Ackley Improved case. You could get a little bump in velocity over the 6.5x06 and still have a nice long neck for bullet tension. One reason I haven't done anything but think is the requirement for a oddball chamber reamer and means a custom job which would not be cheap. But still, the idea hangs on--maybe someday. james

I am not an "expert" but I have worked a few military mauser with synthetic stock and the one thing I have found is they do better when the action is glassed in good and solid and the forearm floated. For me at least, fiberglass in all its forms tends seems to bend and move a little under recoil without bedding. My experience anyway, James
