  1. The sight is soldered on I suppose since there's no screws. I'll have to ponder on this...
  2. Ah, I didn't know there were muzzle caps available! I'll have to check and see, thanks! It is my fervent hope that this stock can be used and turned into something I really like.
  3. Hmmm, the pics don't show. Let me try again...
  4. The thread on two piece stocks got me to thinking about this Swede I picked up a few months ago: Someone cut and target crowned the barrel along with cutting the stock right at the front barrel band for a Mannlicher look. Over time, I've decided I like the look but not the execution. I like the idea of a different material spacer but I really don't know what shape the muzzle end really needs to be or how to properly shape it since there is no muzzle cap. I'd appreciate and thoughts or suggestions. Thanks!
  5. Spotted at one of my local pushers: Tagged as "FN Mauser Sporterized 8x57", no markings that I could find, I don't recall seeing a gas vent at the front of the receiver, where the receiver crest should be was a trapezoidal shape (I think) where the sides came in like this / _ \ (not that steep and maybe upside down from what I posted) and that was filled in with either stamped or engraved fine lines (possibly peened but it didn't feel that rough and I left my glasses in the truck ) and the rear sight was some sort of express type sight. It had one big, fixed rear leaf not quite an inch wide, a very thin folding leaf behind that and possibly one more leaf that may be stuck (or it's not a leaf at all ). The stock has a schnabel forend and is missing a chunk of wood around the rear tang (can't tell if there's a split or not). The bolt was already turned down as well. Asking price is $400. I suspect it's a sporterized mil-surp but the lack of ANY markings and crest treatment makes me wonder if it's a commercial sporter. Any ideas, thoughts or SWAGs as to what it may be and if it's worth the asking price? I'm more interested in building a .257 Roberts but I never know what odd things will pop-up before I get to it or if this would make a good rebarrel candidate. Thanks!
