karlunity
Most people work to pay the bills or because they see a career. Now? If you can get more on "aid" than you can working..why work? is the way they see it. And they do not expect it to get better. I don't see anything changing for at least the next few years. Since Obama ended the Workfare program. There is no motive especially for a single mother to work unless she has a marketable skill. A single mother is better off financially on the govt teat than taking an entry level job.
Dr.Hess
I've seen some articles showing that the freebies a single mother gets amount to working at a salary of about $50K/yr. There is literally zero incentive to ever get off welfare.

There is literally zero incentive to ever get off welfare. According to O'Reily, better than 70% of African-American babies are born out of wedlock. Seems to me the financial incentive is to get knocked up and not have to work for a living. By the time the illegitimate child is of age, the mother is on disability. karlunity
Once it became clear that it was far more better for the bottom line to send the jobs out of the country, and import cheap labor for those that you could not ship, it was clear that the soon to be unemployed were or could be a problem. They could vote to stop for protectionist laws or riot and burn and think 1789 or 1917. So you buy them off with welfare and TV and drugs. same thing happened in Italy of the first century and for much the same reason. karl
