gun nutty
Apparently, the administration is looking at a gender-less Marine Cover (Hat): http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/10/24/obama-wants-marines-to-wear-girly-hats/ I might suggest something even more unisex: https://farm5.static.flickr.com/4121/4910309147_bb6aac227e.jpg
karlunity
You have to wonder what they are smoking. That is all I am going to say on this . karl
rdm1962
First the Army went to Berets like a bunch of French painters. Now the Marines are going to look like Bell Hops at a cheep hotel. Every time something like this happens I wonder what George Patton or Chesty Puller would say. Most likely "are you out of your F###ing minds". AzRednek
About as bad as Nixon's red uniforms that made soldiers look like wooden Christmas toys. At least in my opinion Marines have the most attractive uniforms of all branches. Somebody needs to remember "if it ain't broke don't fix it". It was a morale building thing. They look sorta cool but the suck when the sun is shining due to no visor.
FC
The Marine hat on men is extemely offensive and demeaning. I hate the black beret.
karlunity
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/10/26/the-marines-shoot-down-that-story-about-new-girly-hats-and-obamas-pushing-for-the-change/ The brass backed down. But the story lacks a certain logic. If the WMs needed a new cover as the firm that makes theirs is out of business, how does that affect the men? Who ordered that picture taken? Yes, The DOD gave that "suggestion" but who in the DOD? If it did not come from HQMC than it had to be someone in the Chain..that means the Chairman or the CNO or the Secy or the President or VP. In any case the voice of the people it would seem has been heard. I could never see the "Beret" thing the Army has. I know that the SF picked up the idea in Europe and that JFK gave them permission. But ... I think it creates a class system in the Army. The Army 11b is made to feel like ...let's say that he does not feel valued. When the Infantry of an Army feels that way, that is not good. I have known some very good army infantry ....they would have made good marines. I know..I know we have Recon and Force Recon but we make sure that they know that they are Marines...nothing less and nothing more. karl
FC
100% agree with you Karl. The insistence that military clothing be made in America drives up prices and limits suppliers.
karlunity
From what I was reading the price has gone off the wall. One guy posted that a shirt can cost 100 bucks. karl
AzRednek
100% agree with you Karl. The insistence that military clothing be made in America drives up prices and limits suppliers. While I was in the uniform business all uniform items sold to any federal agency had to be made in the USA. One of my suppliers claimed it was due to a Congressional edict. One of our shoe suppliers (Rocky) tried to skirt around it by having shoes made in Puerto Rico. Don't know all the details but was told it was an attempt to bust the unionized USA factories. Their chief competitor countered by bringing in shoes from China. I couldn't sell the Chinese shoes unless the employee paid out of his/her own pocket. The best quality, shirts and trousers especially came from the New York garment district with a hefty price tag.
