  1. thanks karl there still is lots to be done, barrel has to get cut down, muzzlebrake added, scope mount added, and scope...so its got a ways to go, and hopefully will be a little more accurate after these things are done
  2. I finally went to shoot the rifle today, only with iron sights though. But it did shoot very well. At 100 yds (and a vicious glare in my eyes, sorry, I shouldnt be making excuses ) I shot approx 6" groups. And since I was planning on going this Tuesday to see if I could track down a big buck, I might bring this along. The recoil feels to be about 25% of what it was when it was in original form (thank you limbsaver) and with the versa-pod and pistol grip stock it is incredibly stable and just feels amazing to me. Not that it matters, but I'd love to get it to a range and have some others shoot it and see what kind of feedback I get.
  3. Saw this the other day at a gun shop, took some quick (although crappy, sorry) pics with my cell phone... It has a straight pull bolt, internal magazine, and all numbers have been ground off, but the rifle is in great shape According to the shop its NOT a Mauser....but he thought a Steyr maybe? But its really cheap so I thought about rescuing it, just wondering what it is and what caliber it might be:
  4. Ron, for some reason the attachments arent working for me in that thread...maybe their site is having issues or maybe its just my computer...ill try and take a look at them later on the other computer.
  5. heres the new bolt handle and knob I finished tonight bent it up yesterday and tig'd it on earlier today...came out pretty well i think
  6. Thanks guys...it has been fun messing with this thing, especially since I have so little invested in it. Hopefully it will be a pretty capable rifle once I am done. Pictures of the bent bolt and teardrop handle should be up tonight.
  7. Tear drop bolt handle knob came in today, so hopefully in the next few days Ill have the new bolt handle installed. Pictures will follow.
  8. Limbsaver installed for your viewing pleasure Now to find the money for the scope/mount and barrel cutting/recrowning and it will start to look really nice
  9. Thanks Ken, yeah I have shot it with the original steel buttplate and to be honest it wasnt THAT bad...but I ended up getting a limbsaver today anyway. I figure it cant hurt. Ill have pics of it in a little while.
  10. Hey, thanks, yeah its getting a limbsaver tomorrow actually. As far as the cheekpiece goes, its made from abs plastic, so its not that hard....basically like a synthetic stock I will shoot it sometime within the next few days, and assess things from there.
  11. Here are some updated pics...not done yet...but getting there
  12. Thanks Brenden I think a lot of peoples opinion varies from yours though Its ok though, Im not building this to get people to kiss my butt, or ask me to build them one. Im building it for me because I wanted an inexpensive/accurate target rifle that was adjustable and different than the rifles everyone else has.
  13. Yep, DirtyJims rifle is very cool indeed
