  1. I've got Richard's Microfit thumbhole stocks on both the 6.5 RM and the 350 RM. The laminate thumbhole stock and the heft of the action make the 350 RM very comfy to shoot - no more felt recoil than my 270 Tikka in its synhthetic stock. In fact, that 350 RM is probably my favorite rifle right now.
  2. I poseted this on the "Ask the Gun Guys" forum but perhaps it'd be more appropriate here... I've seen lots of posts about sporterizng the M48 but not one yet on conversion to the 6.5 Rem Mag. I originally had a rifle built in .260 Remington by a local gunsmith on the M48 action with a 25" Shilen barrel. A year or so later I sent a Charles Daly action, 23" Shilen barrel, and a Richard's Microfit stock to one of the gunsmiths listed here (Van Schneider of Sandusky, OH) with a request to make it into a 350 Remington Magnum. Van did a superb job and questioned why I hadn't done the M48 project in 6.5 Rem mag instead of 260 Rem. A couple years later, I decided I wanted a bit more velocity from the 260 and so I had a local gunsmith do the necessary work (opening bolt face, re-chambering, etc.) to convert it to 6.5 Rem Mag...and I'm really glad I did! The longer barrel I have on the 6.5 RM, combined with the M48's intermediate action length, are just perfect for handling the heavier 6.5mm bullets and wringing the potential out of this cartridge. Has anybody else out there used an M48 for conversion to either of these two calibers?
