One thing for sure they wont be getting any cheaper. I also suspect Nagant's prices are likely going to go ballistic with Obama's sanctions on Russia. If Obama's sanctions also include ammo and components we can kiss good-bye the low cost Wolf and Tula brands.

I have some experience with the M48 vs M48A. The M48 has a milled steel floorplate/trigger guard assembly and is much easier to make into a decent looking sporter. They can be smoothed up with hand work (a fair amount of hand work), and they make good sporters. I personally would not assemble one without safety breeching the new barrel, but others have done it with a flat breech. I think the rifle was designed with a safety breech, and it only takes a few more operations to put one on the new barrel. If there is a decided downside to these actions for building on, it is that they are NOT suitable for 30-06 length cartridges. Fine for x57 or .308 length cartridges, but the 30-06 family is too long, and there is not a safe way (in my opinion) to lengthen these actions to accept the 30-06 (or .270, .280, 35 Whelen, etc.).
