  1. Richards Microfit also makes stocks for the Mosin Nagant. As a matter of fact the sporter thumbhole stock you see when you go to the Mosin area of Rock Solid Ind. is a Richards.
  2. Howdy all. So just wondering if anyone here has done or knows of anyone that has necked up an 8 x 57 to a 338? Seems like a neat cartridge and would be even neater in a nice sporterized GEW 98. And it seems to me that the question isn't why, but why not .
  3. Thank you for mentioning the S&K system. I haved looked at them but according to the net there are mixed reviews. Do you have any personal experience with them? The MOJO arrived today and I had it installed in less than 5 minutes and that included removing the original sight. Won't be able to shoot it until hopefully tomorrow. I do like the sight picture (now there actually is a sight picture ).
  4. I ordered a Mojo MicroClick sight for it from Midway. I have often wondered about the Mojo and now is a good time to try one. I will see how it goes from there.
  5. Well thanks everyone! I reckon to be more specific, the problem(???) I am having is that there are a so many opitions that I am not sure which way to take this rifle. Its like being a dog in the forrest for the first time. I bought a GEW 88 action and knew what I wanted to do with it. I have a Turkish 1893 Mauser that I am finishing up to be a Mannlicher Twede and knew thats what it would be when I saw it not to mention the DP Pattern 14 (though I went back and forth on the caliber) Etc... But when I look at this (all matching) 24/47 I cannot see what it will be. I am perplexed though I am in no hurry so by the time I am ready to start on it I will know which way to go. Keep the ideas coming.
  6. Well I bought this rifle a while back because it was looking all lonely and unloved sitting in the local gun shop. The first sign that you are old (older, getting old etc...)is when you say "its not because of my age but", well its not because of my age but I cannot use the orginal sights (the blurry blobs on the barrel) because I cannot ummm see them Hate to alter this rifle but I cannot use it as it is. But I do like it. So give me some ideas as to what you would do with this rifle if it were yours (receiver sight, drill and tap for a scope, rebarrel/rechamber, etc...) Hunting will be the general use for this rifle. Thanks folks!
  7. So how is this Turk coming along???
  8. Well I thought that the DVD was pretty good. Not great but helpful. akshooter, I saw the SmartFlix site. I will use them in the future to check out a DVD before I decide to buy. Thank you for the advice! hodgie, if you want I will loan you the DVD.
  9. Well howdy folks! I figured that since these DVDs pertain to sporterizing (sort of) I would post this here. I just ordered these DVDs from Midway. Reviews where good so I thought why not. I reckon we'll see. I will post what I think when I watch them. And I've got an older brother that wants me to rebarrel/rechamber/restock (.280 Remington) a Remington manufactured U.S. M1917 barreled action that has had the rear sight ear ground off. A good friend of mine here has a machine shop and has built a few rifles himself. And is more than willing to help me (let me use his lathe and mill) and maybe learn a thing or two also. Should be fun!
  10. I am fimiliar with that site (surplusrifles.com). That sound like it would be very helpful. Is it in the Sporterized section. Thank you for the help!
  11. Thanks folks. I believe that I may have found a solution and that is a MOJO Sighting Systems MicroClick. Looks pretty good and I believe might work.
  12. I do dig the Mosin Nagants! But with my vision being what it is and not getting better with age I would like to put a receiver sight on my Mosin(s). The original rear sight is to far forward for me to focus on clearly. Any ideas besides a bent bolt handle for certain? Yes, years from now I will be using a scope but I do not want to go that way just yet. Thanks folks!
  13. Howdy folks! I have this Krag barreled reciever and I want to remove the barrel. Is there an action wrench for this? Does anyone here have the blueprints for making an action wrench for a U.S. Krag? Is there another way to remove it? Thanks in advance for the help.
