How Much Heat For Silver Solder

Recommended Posts

Ok guys [and Gals] I have a Sporterized LR Mauser Barrel that will only be Usable as a Tomato stake.

It does have a Kind of Cool front sight on a long ramp. Near as I can tell it is attached by Silver Solder...

Will a neutral flame from my little oxy-acetylene rig be sufficient??

Or should I set it up more aggressively??? ie as if I was gonna cut with it???

Solder ain't my "thing" .... as is Obvious...

next installment??? How to attach it to a new Home!!!!!!!

I'd use the oxygen/acetylene rig myself, with a smaller tip. Unless your propane right is really big.

Been a lot of years ago but I removed a soldered on sight with a propane torch. Wasn't easy as the shot out barrel working like a heat sink soaked up and spread the heat.

Yes...I see that the logical expedient will be my little oxy-acetylene rig....I don't feel like heating the whole house to get this off....tho...this time of year...

Anyway...I may learn something about re-attachment if I use a heat source with good Control!! Maybe??

No pins nor screws...I believe the Propane torch I have would have been sufficient..It did Not take as Much heat as I anticipated...Snatched it off with my pliers before it fell off on the floor.

Now...I am in amazement how whomever attached it got such a Perfectly shaped Tinned spot!!!

Reattachment is going to be a Challenge!!!
