I did some more good ol'fasion horse trading. Got me a S&W Model 625 stainless revolver chambered in 45ACP and a Ruger Redhawk in 44 mag. I really wanted to find a Redhawk in 45 Colt but no such luck. Redhawks in 45 Colt are hard to come by and usually priced ridiculously high. I've always liked the Redhawk but for some reason the Super Redhawk never appealed to me.<br /><br />I gave up my NIB Norinco 1911, Russian commercial Makarov, Argentine Hi Power and a little cash booty. The Hi Power was simply to finicky about ammo. Shooting FMJ's it was designed for perfectly but lead, SP or HP's were unreliable. Probably easily fixed with a ramp polish. Being military or police surplus. It is in desperate need of a trigger job even after removing mag safety.<br /><br />Kind of an unusual trade we did it nearly entirely via text messaging. Meeting the first time at a Sportsman's Warehouse on the northern border of Phoenix. Second time we met up at a hiway rest stop apx half way between Phoenix and Prescott in the Horse Thieves Basin area. Although I have some regrets giving up the Hi Power I just couldn't pass on the Redhawk. It was a good trade as we both parted company as friends and both of us satisfied with the deal. We had a good and long bull session before we headed back to town.<br /><br />Crummy cell phone pics<br /><br /><a href="http://s2.photobucket.com/user/dnisbet/media/REDHAWK-1_zpsc64b2dcd.jpg.html" data-cke-saved-href="http://s2.photobucket.com/user/dnisbet/media/REDHAWK-1_zpsc64b2dcd.jpg.html"><img src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/dnisbet/REDHAWK-1_zpsc64b2dcd.jpg" data-cke-saved-src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/dnisbet/REDHAWK-1_zpsc64b2dcd.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://s2.photobucket.com/user/dnisbet/media/42fb070b-4c0c-466d-8db0-6fda9685090f_zps0a597722.jpg.html" data-cke-saved-href="http://s2.photobucket.com/user/dnisbet/media/42fb070b-4c0c-466d-8db0-6fda9685090f_zps0a597722.jpg.html"><img src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/dnisbet/42fb070b-4c0c-466d-8db0-6fda9685090f_zps0a597722.jpg" data-cke-saved-src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/dnisbet/42fb070b-4c0c-466d-8db0-6fda9685090f_zps0a597722.jpg" /></a><br /> <br />.

Sorry for the small photo. It is all Karl's fault.

I'll have to get off my rear and get some real pictures. I'll need them for identification anyway. Karl insisted I post pictures from my cell phone.

Yeah, Karl, you're the Roach Motel of Firearms. They Check In, but They Don't Check Out.

I don't have a 44MAG. I've shot one. A long time ago, mid 70's when I was a kid, a guy had a Ruger Super Blackhawk, I think, in 44 MAG at the gun range when I was shooting my 1911. He let me shoot it with "hot loads." It was pretty impressive. I think one gun I would like to buy, and I may someday, is a Desert Eagle in 50AE, 44MAG and 357MAG. I would want all three conversion sets. I've always been an auto-loader kinda guy.

Doc I've seen a Desert Eagle twice in action at the range. One guy I remember rather well showed up in a coat and tie in a rather impressive looking foreign sports car. After removing his coat, tie and cuff links and rolling up his sleeves. He gathered plenty of attention and a small crowd of on-lookers with his remarkable shooting. He was shooting either the 44 or 50 judging by the daytime muzzle flash on an over cast day at a 100 yard silhouette target. Hearing second or third hand down the line. He told an adjacent shooter he was preparing to use it in a Utah Elk hunt.

The conversion, 357 especially would be great for practice if it functions reliably with 38's. I quickly start flinching shooting the boomers like 44 Mag and usually keep it limited to a cylinder or two. I nearly always start shooting Specials or down loaded handloads after shooting the mags. 50AE would almost require using handloads to keep practice affordable. If the handloads could be softened up enough to shoot reliably without pain for practice. It would be an ideal handgun for hunting. Probably capable of taking any North American game.

Hollywood has a fondness of the Desert Eagle. I get a big kick out of women actors rapid firing it one handed. Seeing a pro shooter either on Gun Z Gear or Gun Talk TV shooting the 50 AE. The recoil and muzzle rise would certainly stop any shooter either male or female from doing the rapid firing Hollywood likes.

I see Desert Eagles occasionally on Backpage. Unfortunately most are trying to recoup their investment. I've sent low ball offers trying to open up negotiations but so far have never got a response.

If we keep having trouble with the Edit button. I may have to take it up wit the local Iman and discuss a possible flogging for Karl!!

I'll admit that I like the DE's just "because" and for no other reason. I handload almost everything anyway, so that would just mean more dies. I really don't see me shooting 44 mag enough to bother setting up the Dillon RL550B for it. Anyway, can't afford it now. It's just "on my list." You know, for when you have two large burning a hole in your pocket and you need something stoopid to buy. I've heard there are cycling problems, etc., but I don't care. It's not exactly a home defense or concealed carry gun.

My dad has a S&W 500. He says you really only get one shot with it, because the recoil is so tremendous that a follow up shot just ain't gonna happen. But that one shot, if you miss, the muzzle blast will incapacitate whatever is in front of you. Muzzle energy is about the same as a 30-06.

Dr. Hess.

I cannot argue the point sir. In fact the only rifles that got away were a 91/30 in NRA VG to excellent that I gave a friend; and a 1938 Turk with Bayonet in NRA good to VG that I gave as a thanks gift to the fella who sold my second house and liked things German.

I would rather give stuff to people that would value it then sell them at a pawn shop or get ripped off at the gunshop.

I am not a good trader, I get mad or insulted and walk off....just was not raised to do it. In Brooklyn, you paid the price as marked or did not buy. I don't look down on folks who can trade, it is a fine skill, just one that I do not have.
