ken98k
An aquaintance recently gave me several cans of gun powder. Some of the cans have rust on the outside but the inside of the cans are dry and the powder appears to be okay. Should I be concerned? odies dad
As a general rule, if it smells OK and isn't "dusty", use it.
Dr.Hess
I've been shooting some IMR4198 that I bought in the mid 70's. It doesn't flow well in a Dillon, so I had set it aside. Been using the Redding powder measure for my 7mm project and the 300 Blackout, so I dug it out. Outside of the can is a bit weathered from sitting in a garage for 40 years, but inside is just fine. ken98k
Glad to hear that because he gave over 25lbs of assorted powders.
AzRednek
I recall reading somewhere old powder with a moldy or vinegary odor should be discarded. Also stick powders turning grey or white should also be dumped. The gun rag article recommended using mag primers and to be cautious of hang fires with old powder.
