GA1dad
What type of Mausers are cock on open?? I keep running across stuff on line that is priced cheap, but I don't have a clue what it really is. And usually the owner doesn't either. Example: I have a guy wanting to sell me a Chezk 8mm Mauser, and that's all he knows.
donmarkey
Generally pre 98's are cock on close and post cock on open. -Don
gun nutty
Any Mauser with a protruding/in-line magazine or a bolt shroud without a flange is cock-on-closing (COC). Only the 98s and their derivatives (Siamese, Spanish 98, and Mexican) are COO. That Czech should be a 98; pre 98s were German, Swede, Spanish manufacture. GA1dad
OK, I just got a PM from the guy after I requested more info. He says it's cock on open. Says it a BRNO 23 or 24. I can get it for a hundred bucks, unregistered. Would this be a good buy. Anybody got a picture of one sported?
gun nutty
$100 for a good, clean Mauser is excellent, especially for a BRNO. Even with a shot "barnacle" bore. No rust, pits... excellent buy.

Racepres
Heck I wouldn't care if there was Dog Doo in the Bore!!!! The parts are worth that w/o the barrel.. IMHO.. MV
gun nutty
barnacle bore... heh... A bore that's grungy, rusted, and has stalagmites. Looks much like the bottom of a well-seasoned ocean vessel.
Horsefly
I'd give 100 smackers for a VZ24,if it was a good, clean action and I needed one.I've got 2 and a 98/22,and the only action I have that is smoother are my Swedes.Funny thing about VZ24's that I have noticed is,some are rusted and pitted under the wood line, and some are slicks as a hounds tooth, not much in between. The first time I saw the alignment mark on a 98/22,I thought it had cracked when the barrel was pulled.Jerry
