  1. If its been sporterized and doesnt even work, I would say its a 50 dollar gun. 100 dollars if it can still shoot. An unsported type 38 doesnt even cost that much. BTW, the safety might be on, and thats why the bolt wont move. But if its not the case and it doesnt fire, I wouldnt even waste my time on it.

    Question

If it is 6.5 then most likely it is a type 38. Could be a type 30, type 44, type 97, or maybe a type 35(super rare).
  3. The gun has been altered beyond repair, I say tear it up and make a jewel out of it.
  4. Mitchells mausers are all Russian captures that were bought up by mitchells, reblued, bolts polished(which never happened during WWII, bolts should be blued or phosphated late in the war), sanded stocks, and ground off all mismatched numbers and stamped new ones in. They are real mausers, but so f-ked with that they arent even collectible. If you are looking to get a decent honest mauser from WWII, stay away from mitchells!!!
  5. In 1971, it wasnt a big sin to sporterize all matching mausers. Nowadays, it would be a very bad idea to sporterize any matching or bringback mauser. I tend to be on the purist side of collecting military guns, although I would like to sporterize a gun someday, but I know that back in the day, that a military gun is all alot of folks had, and many needed them to survive, so why not make it a little more handy to survive with. But there are limits in my opinion. Nowadays, sporterizing a bringback or a matching mauser would be a really bad idea, and it would be dumb to do it. But it happens.
  6. Drilling for a scope will devalue the rifle, even if its original. The snipers were different from the regular infantry rifles in that the recievers were thickened. I would keep it as is. Bedding will devalue if it isnt a mitchells. Mitchells mausers are extremely modded and refurbed by Mitchells, and many believe that they force match the rifles. Is it import marked? BTW, scopes for the mauser(original German) will be extremely expensive, so I would advise against buying one unless you have a sniper to put it on. Just my $.02
  7. This gun would more likely be a 1000 dollar gun, as matching rifles are extremely difficult to find. Yes, any modifications would dramatically reduce the value to a 200 dollar gun. Its never a smart idea to do anything more than oil the gun. Any sanding, hacking, drilling and tapping or rechambering is a quick way to ruin the gun and the value. Just trade it for a russian capture and do what ever you want to the russian capture, trust me, alot of people would be happy to trade.
  8. The japanese ceramic grenade was made for the navy. They usually have chips on the lip at the opening for the fuze because GIs would use Kabars to take the fuzes out. You did pretty good, they are fairly common but are around 80 dollars a piece.
  9. Tell him not to sand the stock or anything like that as the chatter on these stocks is supposed to be there. Sounds like a good find. Last ditches make very good shooters and are extremely light.

    Black Diamond

Bore is very good on it. And the seller is my dad, so I can trust him. It comes with the mounts and everything. It has a synthetic stock.
  12. I have been offered a thompson center black diamond 50. caliber stainless steel with a bushnell scope on it for 100 bucks, should I buy it or not?

    Jinsen T38

Nice jinsen 38. These are more rare than the jinsen type 99s!!! BTW, never apply any kind of wax to arisakas, I just got done looking at one that had turtle wax put on it(maybe it was clearcoat), and it wasnt pretty.
  14. sported stocks are all over the place, and there are also bishop stocks available. Good luck with your project, and dont for get to show us pics when you are done!!!
  15. Your friend and you are in my prayers. Hope everything is alright.
