  1. well it seems to be better now I went with tung oil but the soap oil did work well I used boiling water and dried it in the oven at about 200. I didnt want to be to agresive and remove the markings. Plus I think I have decided to keep it orignal mechanicly its in great shape and I would feel bad to chop her up im gonna touch up the bluing and finish the stock. But seriusly now were am I gonna find a pre bubbad or reciver with a ruined barrel without having a c&r definatley wouldnt mind building a 25-06 on a large ring.
  2. bare wood murphys soap oil and alot of scrubbing finaly rubed it down good and is dry adding blo to the stock now not sure how to do it besides rub it let it stand 10min rub off. Also today ordered a oversized front sight and a williams aperature sight that fits in the old leafs place. My orignal plan was to make it simular to the tanker garand.
  3. ok so the mauser scout idea really isnt a good one. right now im having troubles with the wood I put stain on it and it never really wants to come dry.
  4. well seems for the same grn 7x57 is balisticly simular to .308 well at least to remington balistics based on a 24 in barrel. My thought for 18" was because I want to make this a light to carry stalking gun with ghost ring/ peep sights max range around here is maybe 200yards average is about 50yards so instead of 18 how would 20"balance out?
  5. I havent seen one for the 1895 though or are they all basicly the same? If so I might just go with that and keep it factory im sitting on the fence with this lol. Paid $300 at gander for it and the bolt and stock dont mach but overall its in good mechanicle shape.
  6. Well I recently joined because I bought my first mauser and figured I could find some help here I have a 1895 chillean that I want to leave the 7x57 barrel on it figureing I want to chop the barrel to about 18in and cut the stock right in front of the rear barrel band? Is there any way I can keep the front sight maybe strech it to fit and if so are there any good plain peep sights that mount to the reciver I dont want the big side mounts?
