  1. Take it with a grain of salt. Yes there are a LOT of restrictions on what we can and cannot do, but as long as you focus on the goal and do what you can do to get to that goal your unit will make progress. Focusing on the restrictions doesn't solve problems, but every once in a while we get together and gripe about the BS ROE we have to work under. Jimro
  2. Since it's a straight wall belted case you can fire 458 American out of a 458 Win Mag chamber, the same way you can fire 458 Win Mag through a 458 Lott chamber. Jimro
  3. Why not a 458 Win Mag? Mild handloads do everything a 450 Marlin or 45-70 will do and you can neck up most of the common cartridges, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag and trim to length. Jimro
  4. 42 Russian is my guess. Jimro
  5. This is a long shot, but replace the fuel hose. Sometimes they get soft and after a few revs the suction causes that hose in the fuel tank to partially collapse, then when you stop it opens back up and allows fuel to flow free until suction gets strong enough to collapse it again... Jimro
  6. For the metal use carb cleaner and WD40. Use a stiff bristle toothbrush, rag and cotton swabs as needed. Jimro

  8. heh, any device that works via wireless signal is susceptable to EMP disruption. Don't even need a signal blocker, just a power source, capacitor bank, and line charge explosive and you can make an EMP bomb in your rec room... Jimro
  9. when Apple makes the "iGun" or "iPistol" then I'll be a bit frightened... Jimro
  10. http://randomthoughtsandguns.blogspot.com/2010/02/how-to-make-93x62-trim-guide.html Pics at my blog To make a Lee Cutter guide for trimming 30-06 length brass down to 9.3x62 I used: Raw Materials: A 30-06 Lee Cutter trim guide A 223 Rem brass SuperGlue (epoxy or solder would work as well) Tools: Dremel tool (or any sort of grinding tool) Hacksaw Bench vise (or something to hold the 223 brass) 30 caliber reloading die (to open up the 223 brass) One 9.3x62 brass How too assemble. Insert a spent 223 Brass into the press, use a 30 caliber expander die (I used my 308 Win die) and then insert the 223 neck first into the neck of a sized 9.3x62 brass (although a 9.3x57 would work as well) and mark the 223 where it stops going in. Take the 223 out of the neck of the 9.3x62, fix it in a vise and cut at the mark. Screw the 30-06 guide into the cutting tool, dab a few drops of Super Glue onto the top of the shaft, run the cut off neck up the trim guide and wait for the glue to fix. Once the glue is fixed, place the trim guide into 9.3x62 brass, the tip should stick about 1.3 mm past the case head. Use the Dremel tool to grind down the tip. Done, for about six bucks in raw materials (5 bucks for the 30-06 trim guide, maybe a buck for the super glue) I avoided buying an expensive trimming tool.
  11. The boss and driver crossed the line when they blocked the doors to his vehicle. They had every right to maintain control of the vehicle until receiving payment but no right to impede the freedom of the owner. Jimro
  12. I've got everything necessary to keep a soldier comfortable except my own guns but thank you very much for asking. The problem that the multiple tour veterans have is hyper-vigilance and the problem with the first tour guys is become complacent. All of my NCO's are multiple tour types, and it is difficult to get them to be less aggressive now that we are in the end of the war. We don't go looking for trouble, we are vigilant for when it comes, but all our offensive operations have to be conducted with, through, and by the ISF. Makes for an interesting tour. We are going to pull out next year, leaving six "Advisory and Assistance Brigades" behind. Lord knows how that will turn out, how the elections go in January will probably be the deciding factor. 13. August was pretty bad, but as September goes on it gets cooler every day. The chow in Kuwait was fine, the chow at Joint Base Balad is fine dining compared to normal DFAC food, FOB WARHORSE was almost as good as Balad, and FOB NORMANDY is the smallest with the least options. But NORMANDY is far from the flagpole, so it makes life a lot better. I got moved to NORMANDY about a week ago, now we deal with the problems outside Muqdadiyah. The "insurgent activity" in most of Iraq is the same type found in Northern Ireland for so many decades, a series low grade terrorist attacks designed to bring about political change. This summer they got lucky with the car bombs in Baghdad, but since then it hasn't been anything spectacular. Ramadan ends tomorrow so things will either pick up (I consider it likely) or stay the same (meaning the bad guys are going to wait for the elections in January). Time will tell. Maybe we are keeping all these combat troops in Iraq and Afghanistan just to give Iran a two front war? Probably not with Jimmah Carta II in the white house. Jimro
  14. I once scratched an index mark on an M38 K.Kale Turk barrel and receiver, then proceeded to remove the barrel with a pipe wrench, d/t using my dads mill to align the holes, and torqued the barrel back on until the index marks matched again using the same pipe wrench. If I would have had a little more foresight I would have soaked the receiver ring in oil for a week or two before attempting to d/t, that dang barrel wouldn't budge any other way. I was smart enough to pay a real smith to bend the bolt, but dumb enough to do the d/t myself. I wouldn't recommend the practice, but the headspace was fine afterward and I shot the dickens out of that rifle. Think about it this way, you saved yourself 125 bucks and you aren't going to worry about a potentially screwed up action. Jimro
  15. Howdy fellas, Internet access is spotty at best for me, but every once in a while I manage to get online. After a month in Kuwait I was anxious to get get to Iraq. Been on the ground near Baquba in the Diyala province for a little over two weeks now. The situation here is almost like another NTC rotation. Things are very calm right now, but I don't think the Iraqi's are really ready to handle their own security at this point. Next year maybe, I don't know. Bottom line, the surge worked. Next year will be interesting. I'm watching Afghanistan with great interest, there are a lot of international funding of terrorists there. How the Obama administration handles Afghanistan will probably be a defining point of the next three and a half years. The deteriorating situation under NATO in Afghanistan is reaffirming the knowledge that if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. We have some great allies IN NATO, but we haven't been able to translate that into an effective and integrated force policy on the ground. Jimro
