Lacquer Or Polymer Coated 7.62X39

Aim Surplus is selling different types 762X39 ammo for the same price per thousand. Friend of mine emailed asking which would I prefer. One is polymer coated and the other is lacquer coated, both are steel cases. I couldn't honestly answer his question.

If you were faced with the same decision, which would you prefer, lacquer or polymer coated? If you have had any experience, knowledge, simply a personal opinion or even anything you may have heard or read. I'd appreciate it if you could share it.

The best 762X39 I ever had came from Finland in the early 80's. It was brass cased, berdan primed,100% reliable and remarkably accurate. That is judging accuracy compared to the stuff being sold today and shooting with eyesight that was 30 years younger. The Finnish ammo was also very expensive but at the time 762X39 ammo was hard to find in the USA. I never shot any but have been told by friends with legal class 3 weapons. The boxer primed, brass case stuff from China made especially for the USA market was as good if not better than the Finnish ammo. One friend claimed his last batch before Clinton banned Chinese ammo imports was labeled match grade in English.

About a year or so ago a friend and I took a dozen disabled vets to the range. Put apx 600 rds that day through my AK, got the barrel smoking hot and had a few jams. Every round of my copper washed steel cased Chinese ammo went bang. The vets had access that day to an AR-15, M-1, M1A (M-14 legal version) SKS and both versions 03 and 03A3 Springfields. Most of the vets being from the Nam era preferred shooting AK and my shooting bud's SKS.

There is no doubt the Reds know how to make it. I wonder though how hard the soft steel cored and various non copper jackets are on barrel life. Guess if I live long enough to get 10,000 rds down my AK or SKS I'll find out. The point is. The ammo might be hard on barrels but chances are slim unless it is a legal class 3 weapon. Probably never be enough shot through it to have any significant wear on the barrel to have an ill-effect on the minute of man accuracy.

Moderators any idea how all the "<br /> <br /> winds up in a post I edit?
