spec4 e4
While at my father's house, I was able to test fire the three rifles that I built. I have a issue with one. The 8mm Mauser that I built will not go off. Check the primer, light strike. Check the pin and replaced. No luck. Replace the spring with another surplus one. Nothing. Check the movements, free. When I install a primed case, no power or bullet and pull the bolt out, she'll in on the bolt. Should I order another new striker spring from wolf or any suggestions would be great. thanks Rob
ken98k
Sounds to me like insufficient firing pin protrusion. I believe Sarco recently had a batch of original military style firing pins made. And then there is the Tubb model from midway. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/366309/tubb-speedlock-systems-firing-pin-and-spring-mauser-
Spiris
Proper M98 firing pin protrusion should be .055"-.060". I'm guessing that you have checked for proper headspace to eliminate that possibility? Are you using factory ammo or reloads? Spiris
spec4 e4
Military surplus and they work in other rifle. I change the firing pin with another and same thing happen. It is on a Yugo M48 action so it shorter. The 1st pin works in other rifle.
odies dad
Check and make sure there isn't any crud in the bolt recess. That could prevent the firing pin from bottoming out and causing a light strike.
spec4 e4
Already reclean the striker hole. Clean everything. Check headspace, check ammo, check trigger, I am lost. Might put it up and revisit later. Work on the 30-06 and 243. Finish stock and park metal. Don't know what's wrong. Rob
Dr.Hess
How much is the "stick out" on the firing pin? I wonder if the bolt is different inside. Maybe it needs to be bored a couple thousandths deeper or something.
Spiris
This site, you might be familiar, has a Mauser ID section that shows dimensions that may help. It has to be something that you're overlooking. I didn't know that we were talking the intermediate length M48 action, but the protrusion dimension is the same as the M98. http://www.hoosiergunworks.com/catalog/mauser_reference.html Spiris
karlunity
Having read you posts, I think that I would try another bolt if you have one or failing in that, check the firing pin again. I had the same idea as Dr. Hess. You seem to have tried everything else. If you cannot get to the range..prime some empty brass and stick the muzzle in a pile of rages that will allow you to test at home and not annoy the neighbors. karl
odies dad
Something else to check is, if the bolt handle has been altered, is it closing completely? If not the firing pin will not bottom out.
