7 Ways To Make Pocket Pistols Work For You

Some good advice but upgrading the sights for a pocket pistol I think will create problems. To easy to snag onto clothing. If using a pocket holster, larger sights might bring the holster out of the pocket attached to the pistol. If I'm forced to draw on a bad guy. Chances are good he will be close enough that I'd be comfortable pulling the trigger as soon as the front sight is lined up to center mass.

Yeah, I don't really see a need for target sights on a pocket pistol. More the 3 ft away point and shoot kind of a gun. Or like they say for a 25 auto: Screw it in their ear and empty the mag. Don't really need sights for that.

Like that Derringer they have pictured. I can barely hit a 5 gallon bucket with one at 5 ft. And I consider myself a fair pistol shot. Not fantastic, but I've won a few matches.

Years ago I had a FIE brand 38 Special Derringer. My shooting bud's 10 year old daughter was deadly with it. Hitting paper plate targets considerably further than the adults. Her dad also had an odd ball brand 25 auto she could score nearly as well. I couldn't hit a paper plate beyond apx 15 feet. The kid nearly double the distance. Shooting it from the hip or without aiming shots went way right. My guess, shooting without aiming be lucky to hit a silhouette target beyond five, possibly seven feet.

The 38 Derringer bit the dust after some how discharging both barrels at the same time. Bent the top hinge. Gunshop gave me credit toward a new purchase. I upgraded to a Hi Standard 22 Mag Derringer. Only put two shots through it. Like a typical horny 25 year old I loaned it to a big breasted redhead and never saw it again.

Why are derringers so darned huge? Not worth it for only two shots.

Well the first rule to a gunfight, bring a gun. The Derringers I've had were all pretty small. The Hi Standard was the largest. Seems to me if they made them any smaller, there wouldn't be anything to hang on to. I still have a tiny single shot 22. It was made in the same European factory that made the Colt Derringers. The Colts were a gimmick. They were sold in pairs in a fancy presentation case for a ridiculous price.

The 22 Derringer wouldn't be much good for self defense. If I had to choose I'd rather have a club before relying on the puny 22. The only advantage the Derringer has against a sober bad guy. Is hoping he realizes he's been shot. From what I've read in regards to shootings. When somebody knows they've been shot they will often fall in an act of submission. Hoping you don't shoot them again.
