Changes At Parris Island?

My nephew just finished his enlistment and got out.
When he went to PI about 4 years ago he said " it was fun and not bad at all"
That struck me as strange but I figured that it was just boot bs.
Now I find that there was a WM as CG in Parris Island, who kept the DI's under control??? and she has been replaced by a staff Officer who as far as I can find has no combat time.
Please keep in mind that the Corps has been at war since 2001. So one would expect at least some time in the war zone from a marine general officer.
The rule since WW ll was that the CG had to have combat experience, that was what I have always been told...

Like it or not, the Marine Corp has been liberalized along with the rest of the armed forces.

You may recall this photo of a "modern" Marine returning from a deployment.
