  1. Thank you. I'll try this. Might there be another method?
  2. I came across a Mauser with a side mount and a scope. The bolt has been modified and the safety also. It's not the regular Mauser safety; this one only has two set places. My problem is that I cannot figure out a way to disassemble the bolt for cleaning. Can someone tell me what kind of safety this is and how to go about taking it apart? I've been told on another forum that I have a hunting rifle safety. The SAFE position is at a 45 degree angle or so. Never goes past that spot.
  3. You know, I never even considered that option. Thanks guys.
  4. I decided that I want to put a scope on one of two sporterized Mausers, but I don't know which would be a better choice. The first Mauser has an all-matching bolt, a very nice blued finish, and a 23 inch barrel that was contoured. The second Mauser is an all matching rifle except for the stock, has about a 80% finish to it, and a 21 inch military stepped barrel. Neither have a rear sight base. This rifle would mainly be used for hunting, so I was leaning towards #2 without the great finish. But, I also want to take advantage of the most accurate rifle which I believe may be #1. Should I just shoot them side-by-side and scope which ever one is more accurate or have you guys already decided on what you think I should do? A parkerized finish may be in store for #2 so that it wouldn't matter if it got dropped or scratched in the woods.
  5. Would the XS scout mount affect accuracy by being epoxied on? Could a gunsmith sweat the rear sight base on the barrel? I read that you don't need to solder it back on, you could just use some red locktite from what I understand.
  6. I've come across the XS scope mount that encircles the barrel but it's not exactly what I was looking for. I think I will have to go that route however if I find nothing else. I'd like to have the ability to take the mount off and put it back on quickly. With this one I think it is permanent. http://www.xssights.com/index.php?nID=scopemounts&cID=Scope%20Mounts&pID=scopemounts
  7. I haven't found that yet. I searched for something along those lines and everything that came up required the rear sight base already installed. I just received a sight base from APEX gun parts but I'm wondering if it fits the barrel on my Mauser. I'll probably just have to go to a local gunsmith and see if he knows or can do what I'm asking.
  8. I would like to install a rear sight base I got from APEX on a 1943 Mauser I picked up recently. I tried sliding it on over the barrel and it got stuck just before the rear sight base alignment hole. Is this ordinary? I would need to hammer it down the rest of the way but I don't want to damage the barrel. My goal is to make a Mauser scout by using a rear sight base to mount a LER scope. I'd rather not have the receiver drilled. Anyone have any experience with this type of situation? What other options do I have to mount LER scopes or ghost rings without drilling into the receiver?
