Best Leather Dressing For Inside The Pants Holster?

Got me a new holster off of Ebay. I'm looking for suggestions on the best leather dressing that wont irritate bare skin. I dressed another several years ago with Neatsfoot Oil. It irritated bare skin causing a constant itch. I scratched the area nearly raw in my sleep, quit using it and had to keep Calamine lotion on my skin a couple days.

Has anybody dressed leather with hand lotion?? Were the results good, bad indifferent??

Try some Lexsol. What are you trying to do?

Thx Doc, I've heard of Lexsol but have never used it. I really liked the 1950's lanolin based US mil-surp stuff I used to buy back in the 70's. Worked well on GI slings but the mutton tallow type odor would be offensive. I rubbed mineral and mink on opposite sides my stomach below my belt line and so far no irritation.

I'm just trying to soften it up. Being new leather it is extremely stiff. Took quite a bit of elbow grease to seat the pistol but after leaving the pistol in it for apx 48 hours. It slides in and out much easier. Possibly like western boots it might soften up with use without any dressing.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thx Clemson. Use seems to have softened it up considerably. I'm speculating that maybe the dye or some other chemicals in the leather may be the cause of irritation against bare skin. Over the past weekend, wearing a sleeveless undershirt underneath my t-shirt, avoiding direct contact with skin seems to have fixed the irritation problem. I noticed a touch of brown probably leather dye seems to have bled into the undershirt.
