P17 Firing Pin Springs

Over the weekend I was going thru a half dozen hands full of firing pin springs that I acquired in a

parts lot I purchased a while ago.

I ended up with a dozen or so long lightweight springs.

I thought perhaps they were Enfield springs so I went to match them

to the Enfield springs that I had. The Enfield spring although it was

longer than the Mauser spring it still wasn't as long as the mystery

spring and the known Enfield spring was about the same wire guage

as the Mauser.

Then I noticed the bag of Enfield parts from the same lot that I had

placed in the 'Enfield' drawer earlier.

Lo and behold those Enfield firing pins already had the same longer

lightweight springs on them.

So does anyone know anything about using a lighter wire gauge

spring that is an inch or so longer as an alternative?

For what reasons would you use such a spring?
