Glass Bedding

Has anybody ever used PC-7 epoxy for bedding material?

I haven't used this one. I've used JB Weld and other epoxies.

Just about anything that is going to set up with a density harder than walnut would likely work. IMHO

Just a side note "PC-7" seems to be a brand. There are several 'types' made by PC-7.

The one in your link should be OK. I've used the wood filler version and been damn disappointed.

I had a pin hole in the porcelain on steel tub of my dish washer. I ground away all the rust to clean

metal and used a dab of PC-7 white marine epoxy. The dish washer did fine for another 7 years till

the motor gave out.

Don't forget to wax up your steel as a release agent and go for it.

I was hoping I'd get a positive answer since the project is complete! It looked good but had second thoughts about its strength having not ever heard of it being used.

I used it simply because I had some and it was a "low priority" bedding project. I have quite a bit of it having used it for other applications. It is definitely harder than walnut.

I used Minwax paste wax and it popped right out. I worked in two stages: did the front ring and then the barrel forward of the front ring. I didn't get real aggressive.

One bedding material that I have fell in love with is Devcon Steel putty. So much easier to work with, no running everywhere, hard as heck but very managable. Kind of expensive though, $35 a pound. Never heard of PC-7, let us know how it turns out.

Paste wax as a relese agent? Never gave that any thought. Stupid question but is this stuff a car wax or what?

Bob used Minwax, some guys swear by Johnson wax. I use something called insulating wax, it actually mentions use

as a release agent.

After 40 yr and several dozen epoxy bedding jobs. I have never used anything but Johnson's Paste Furniture wax. Another 40 yr and maybe the can will be empty. I might at that time consider trying another release agent. ;)
