Give me some ideals. Show them off, bubba or not. Few pic's are fine, or whatever. I have completed about 5 sporter's, I will post some build pictures soon. I had tons of wood stocks, non laminated, and they would swell up during Alaska's wet moose season. Long days in the rain. I had to switch to Lam's or plastics. I hate the plastic stocks but "it is what it is". I kept a lot those in straight wood even though. I like the fact you went as far as putting close range sights on your builds. That can be tricky on getting them straight without a 300 dollar jig. I have a 270 with a Mcgowen barrel 1969 on a santa Barbra comm action. Excellent shot placements. I tried it years ago by eye balling it and f-d it up. I lucked out on the barrel. Getting a hundred off of the premium grade, cyro frozen after another buyer put a deposit down and backed out. I'm curious if McGowen barrels are the same quality since ownership changed. I haven't heard any good or bad since Harry McGowen sold out and the new owners moved the facility. Model 1924/47 serb 7x57, 24" douglas barrel, side safety parker hale, 1909 argentine- shortened mag well, hinged. vortex scope, Bell & Carlson stock, floated. 2. Kar98 small ring 7x57, 22" E.R. Shaw barrel, shroud safety, welded bolt handle tigged, open sights, cheap simons scope, walnut stock, floated. 3. Model 93 spainish, Remington take off 22" barrel, forged bolt with custom knob, ramline stock, floated, Weaver scope and rings, timney trigger, shroud mark II safety. Spiris Posted October 24, 2015 Report Share Posted October 24, 2015 Here's a couple that I finished a few years ago, the first is a K.kale in a Corelite stock sporting a lightened Swede 8mm barrel, Bold trigger, and stainless Duracoat over parkerized metal. I have around $140 in it without the scope, but a lot of sweat equity in the metal prep. Test fired only. I reload all my center fire ammo. The second is a K.kale with a overmolded Hogue stock that I love, Bold trigger, Remington 24" in 22-250 using a singleshot follower, and is the most accurate rifle of the bunch with the loads that I have worked up. Matt black Duracoat over parkerized metal. All work performed by me in my shop, right down to the bolt handle, with Mueller scope. I sanded and polished for hours on some rifles to remove years of tarnished bluing and bubba coatings. That 3 shot group can be covered by a quarter. Nice! Stock is a Richards Microfit. FN Model 24 action, with an A&B stainless steel barrel barrel in 22/250. Receiver left in the white as is the trigger guard. Trigger gaurd is a M93/95 hinged unit, which fits well since the Model 24 is cut for 7mm. I'm going to have to finish the TG in the bake on coating, since it's mild steel it rustss. My youngest son's 300Win Mag, in a blemmed Richards Microfit bastogne walnut stock. Rifle started life as a Centurian Mauser with a 300 Win Mag barrel that had been converted from a 30-06 barrel. The barrel was originally a 1903 Springfield barrel, modified to fit a Mauser, and had been cut to 22". Currently it has a MkX barrel installed. My 300Win Mag. K98 action, with FN bolt, Richards MicroFit English walnut stock. Currently working on a Yugo M48, rebarreled with an A&B barrel in .257 Roberts for my daughter. VZ24, 7mm Rem Mag, 25" triple crown barrel, Fajen stock, Nikon Buckmaster, Parker Hale trigger, hinged trigger guard, Tigged Bolt, Parkerized then Duracoated. Primary Hunting Rifle for many years. Several moose and caribou in the freezer. 2. VZ24, 30-06 Sprg, 24" Adam and Bennett F34, Hurricane Katrina soaked walnut stock off gunbroker, Leupold Gold Ring, Remington open sights, Timney Trigger, Shroud safety, forged bolt, Parkerized then duracoated. Kevinitis Posted November 25, 2015 Report Share Posted November 25, 2015 Here is my rilfe (on the left). I didn't do the work, but its a nice example. I found it at a pawn shop. It was built on a JC Higgins FN built Sears action, original barrel (chrome lined), restocked in walnut, metal refinished to matt, Timney trigger, and jeweled bolt. In 30-06. Picked it up for $550. The second picture is my wife's rifle. I didn't do the work on this one either, but I got this on a very good deal. VZ24 action, new barrel, butter knife bolt handle, timney trigger, wood is African but I don't remember what kind, it has checkering, and an inlay in the stock, hot blued, and Winchester type 3 position safety. The receiver, floor plate trigger guard, scope mounts and cocking piece are engraved with leaves. The length of pull is shorter for a female. Her gun is in 7x57 and is our best shooting rifle. Beware Dad, I am fully convinced that daughters are God's retribution for a man's misspent youth. From birth until about 12-13 she will be the jewel of your heart and wrap you around her finger in ways you cannot fathom right now. When she discovers boys she will rip you off her finger, break your heart, look up at you and say, "But Daddyyyyyy" and your heart will melt. My youngest daughter was a girly girl fashionista who went into the Navy. They laughed when she raised her hand and told them she could shoot. They quit laughing when she was barely nudged out of first place at qualifications. She is 29 now with two beautiful daughters of her own.
