Anybody Here Installed A Reflex Sight On A Pistol?

A couple weeks ago Az G&F put on its annual Outdoor Expo. Everything is expanding except the number of shooting booths.

At the Glock booth I shot a 9MM with a Leupold reflex sight. 10 rds cost me 2 bucks I scored 5 raffle tickets. The raffle tickets were issued one per 2 points. 7 yrds was a single point, 15 was 2 and ridiculous was 3.

I've shot Glocks before, not particularly fond of them but after seeing some of the demos with a reflex sight. Decided it was worth waiting in line for. I was totally impressed with the Leupold reflex sight. It had a bright red upside down triangle. With my eyesight going south with age. Installing a reflex sight on a pistol is now something I want to do.

The Leupolds on the Glocks were a perfect fit. I assume the sights were made specifically for the Glock slide. I didn't ask but assume the slide was drilled and tapped. Been searching the net and have seen various ways to mount them. The best and most likely most expensive method is machining a flat spot on the slide. Cheaper alternatives are mounting a mini Weaver rail or what appears a some what clumsy method of using the picatiny rail to support a wrap around rail.

If any of you have any experience with reflex sights please chime in here and let me know what you think about them.

Thx Wiley. I want to put a reflex on a Beretta PX. Doesn't look like I'll have the ability to co-witness the red dot with the irons like on a S&W auto. About the best I can find for my Beretta are mounts from two sources. Both systems require the rear sight be removed and an adapter go in its place. Price of just the adapter and mount vary from about 45-85 bucks. I'll use a cheapie Chinese optic and if it works well, invest in a higher quality reflex sight.

I really like the Leupold reflex sights Glock had mounted on a few of their pistols at the expo. Myself being an admitted cheapskate wont spend as much for a Leupold sight that is close to the cost of a handgun. The Leupold sight I saw on the Glocks are selling in the $350 range with some exceeding 500.

Do they make some kind of rear sight replacement for the Mosins? Something that lets you put a Picatinny rail on the factory sight base? If you could get that, then the red dot would fit right on and probably work pretty well.

I'm with Doc on the Karl. If a Nagant can be drilled, tapped and either a Weaver type scope mount or Picatinny rail be installed. A Reflex sight can be easily mounted to any scope mount. I'm not sure if there is a No Gunsmith mount made for the Nagant but it might be worth checking out.

Karl if you want to buy a cheapie reflex sight. Do an advanced search on Ebay limiting the search criteria to China. Most offer free shipping and normally it takes 10-14 days to arrive. Unless you're buying a $250+ for a USA mfd Leupold the sight originates from China. No sense in paying somebody in the USA 50-$100 to put the same Chinese made sight in their box.

Be leery of USA Ebay merchants usually in California but I've also spotted a few in Oregon selling Chinese optics. They simply gather sales and have the optics shipped directly to the buyer from China. They are usually easy to discover by their poor command of English in the description. If in doubt send them a few questions. Their response is usually in very poor English and confusing.
