So the Bible says. I am not trying to toot my horn, but I really have tried to save the next generation some government debt, but I'm getting nowhere. Supposedly the Army has pushed Lean Sigma Six. It is a business model, which is supposed to promote pragmatism in operations.
I've shown and seen that we CAN do the same work with less people. I am down some employees, but the number of patients we see is the same, and the job gets done. I also suggested: Instead of every Army hospital having to invent the wheel when it comes to programs, rules, computer programs, documents, etc., why not have one way of doing things for all the hospitals? Not a response from my boss's boss. I said today that the civilian world has nurse managers taking care of multiple floors with nurses who operate a bit above the charge nurse role. I have 20 people under me, while some other head nurses have 40 or so. Why not put one nurse over more than one area? He said he didn't think that would work in the Army. I told him he could ponder the matter, but he said he was done pondering it. Supplies cost more than if I went out on the economy and purchased them, well, at least I think they are 30-50% more costly than I think they should be. I don't know- maybe I'm too civilian. It's like banging your head on a brick wall. I can't fire GS workers without extreme cause, and common sense has to be checked in at the door. Not that those people I mentioned in my chain are bad, they aren't, but this is all they know. If everything I suggested were to happen (dream on), it would save hundreds of thousands of dollars.
I'm just letting off steam. We all know that if you put new wine in old wineskins, the old wineskins would burst.
