  1. Good News- Army transferring bases to Iraqi forces March 6, 2006 BALAD, Iraq (Army News Service, March 6, 2006) – A 4th Infantry Division brigade announced this weekend that it will turn over responsibility for Forward Operating Base O’Ryan, near Balad, Iraq, to the Iraqi Army March 10. This transition of responsibility is one of many ceremonies to come, officials said, as more Iraqi Army units prepare to take responsibility for the security of their country. Last week, the 10th Mountain Division transferred Forward Operating Base Constitution to the Iraqi Army. Along with the base, the Iraqi troops took over operations of western Baghdad and eastern Abu Ghraib. This transfer of operations was one of the largest and most prominent since the training of Iraqi forces began, officials said. Field Artillery preps for FOB transfer In the upcoming Transition of Authority ceremony Friday at FOB O’Ryan, the 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery Regiment will transfer the base to the 4rd Battalion, 1st Brigade, 4th Iraqi Army. With this ceremony, the Iraqi battalion will assume responsibility for security in its own area of operations previously controlled by the 3-29th Field Artillery. The 3-29 FA is part of the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, assigned to the Task Force Band of Brothers. The battalion took control of its area of operations Jan. 11 and has since been training Iraqi Army units in southern Salah ad Din Province. Western Baghdad transferred last week The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, handed over operations of FOB Constitution, western Baghdad and eastern Abu Ghraib to 3rd Bde., 6th IA Div., during a transfer of authority ceremony March 2. “We are comrades. The Iraqi Army and the American forces are brothers,” said Brig. Gen. Aziz Noor, commander, 3rd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division. “We bleed together. We shed tears over the same fallen comrades,” These words rang clear to all present, including more than 1,500 members of the Iraqi Army standing proudly in formation for the ceremony. “The American forces are giving freedom back to the people of Iraq, just as they did in Japan, Germany and Korea,” said Aziz. “We are receiving this area of responsibility and the job to protect it. God willing, we will be able to do so.” ‘Iraqi Soldiers learning quickly’ “Today marks a great day for the people of Baghdad and the country of Iraq, as we celebrate the accomplishments of this brigade,” said Col. Jeffrey Snow, commander, 1st BCT, 10th Mountain Div. “Never have I seen a group of Soldiers learn so quickly and advance so efficiently.” The two brigades have been working alongside each other for several months in training and combat operations – ridding the area of insurgents and winning the hearts of the Iraqi people. “Soldiers of the 1-10th Mtn. Div., and the 3-6 Iraqi Army – are truly brothers in arms,” said Snow. “We both sacrifice for life, liberty and the belief that all people – no matter their tribe, religion or background – can live together as one.” Local leaders aid transition The Iraqi Soldiers’ success has been aided by the support of tribal leaders, police, counsel members and the local citizens. Local council members said that progress has been made despite resistance, and that it will continue to improve. “Progress for the area has been hindered because the insurgents bomb our contractors and kill the innocent civilians,” said Mr. Hamed, a chairman for the Kadha council of Abu Ghraib. “Still, we have completed more than eighty percent of what we have been tasked to do, including water treatment for the people.” Change in this landscape and infrastructure has been difficult and expensive for the Soldiers. “The price of freedom will always be paid through the blood and hard-work of the Iraqi Soldiers and police force,” said Snow. “Without your efforts, there is no future for this great land.” Iraqis enthusiastic to assume job The Iraqi Soldiers were clearly excited as the day progressed, and displayed their enthusiasm to continue the fight. “It is a great day and a great thing to be taking over these operations, and we gladly assume the responsibilities before us,” said Aziz. “We were able to secure the Abu Ghraib area, and we will work together with the citizens to bring more security to the area and rid it of terrorists.” “The Iraqi Army has gained the trust and support of the local citizens, who are the ultimate source of strength for Iraq’s future,” said Snow. “The Iraqi Army is here for all people, and just as the Army must be as one force in order to be effective, so must the people they serve,” he said. “This is your Army and they represent all Iraqis in words and deed,” Snow said. “Follow its example, and this country will never fail, nor tire – and Iraq will once again take its place as the center of knowledge and culture in the Middle East.” (Editor's note: Information provided by 4th Infantry Division and 10th Mountain Division Public Affairs.)

    Day Trading

The computer and the company I paid for software rights maps things out well. They have picks and trends on a broad scale. The knack? I can do this. You don't have to live on the computer, but you do have to do your homework though. Good thing about my job is that I can do it while I eat my ten minute lunch, or when I'm sick of paperwork and need a break.

    Day Trading

I went to an expensive class on self-managed IRA's, and stock market software. I'm going to immerse myself in the study of that and options. Here is a good learning site: Chicago Board of Options
  4. Thanks. No matter what I do I'll get flak, so you just do the best you can. Darned if I'm going to let someone watch TV on duty.

I'll look and see if that is even possible.

    Spam

Toney, you couldn't post because of spam? That confuses me. I get spam on my email, but by spam here I mean people who would post a lot to cause problems, such as trolls, or advertisements that don't belong here. Email spam gets everywhere, esp. if a company sells your address.
  7. It is unusual that I get bad service from the public sector, maybe because I'm not on the left or right coasts? I get warned a lot to mind my P's and Q's with my employees, but I say it like it is. I have a work ethic, and I don't have the time of day for a lazy person. If I get in trouble for it, so what? The good thing is that the RN's are not union, but claim protections from the AFGE. I got told Wednesday that I cannot question a sick call-in, unless there is a "pattern" to their call-in's. IF I find out somebody says they are sick and they are not sick, that is lying and I'll not show much mercy. All people have to do is work and show motivation and interest in their jobs, as well as improving their job skills. I've stayed late so that an employee (2 work split shifts so they can go to school) could go to school because someone called in sick. I went to work with 3 weeks of asthma. I will help my employees, but if they are lazy I'm not going to sit idly by and watch it go on. You, Mr. taxpayer, deserve something for the money you pay.
  8. I have a contract clerk that has spent her afternoons yacking or watching TV. I told her I was going to have her go clerk on a similar floor after 1300 every day. She didn't like that at all. The boss told me to "sell her on the idea". Right, you have to work...you want to do that, right? She said, "That's crazy". That made me mad, but I didn't show it. I told her it was getting more bang for the taxpayer's dollar, since there is not enough work to justify two people working preop all day. She said nobody told her about it. I said, "That's what I'm doing; telling you about it". Her work performance is not that good. I get told she's not my employee, so I can't fire her or counsel her. However, I can say I don't need her or want her anymore if she gives me any more problems. Getting my comfy people motivated is my hardest job. There's a butt lazy attitude with many of them, and I don't like it. However, I have to try to rehab people, and I have to worry about the union. Gee, I wonder why jobs went to China? One nurse told me she didn't care anymore. I told her not to say that kind of stuff in public, because it would cause morale problems. She accused me of causing morale problems. I told her and the rest that I don't want to hear anymore back-talking or complaining. I've had it. I hear they've had morale problems for the last three head nurses. The one who holed up in the office was okay with them- he just left them to their devices, and expected nothing. I figure people's happiness depends upon their attitudes, not my making them happy. I'll be fair, but, by gum, you get paid to work.
  9. I'm making posters register. I don't like anonymous postings. I put flood control up. Postings can be no less than 60 seconds apart. Sooner or later somebody will try to spam the site.
  10. OK. Let's see if it attracts posts.
  11. Midway should give C&R discount to you, but I do not use Midway. Their "specials" are of a very limited number, and I do not like that practice.
  12. Hmm, all I thought they had was the Garand!
  13. I had ads in both Yahoo and Google. I'm putting the Yahoo ads offline for a while and will keep running the Google ads. It gets a little hard to manage both and know how much money I'm spending. Yahoo ran for a while. On Google I'm getting a lot of hits on "Mauser" and few on sporterization. Stocks tend to get a lot of hits, as well as gunsmithing, but stocks, in particular get pricey "per click".

DT, the rifle should be there Friday, they say. USPS refused to mail my revolver to Ruger a year ago.
  17. I bought some no. 11 percussion caps, Remington, and they fit perfectly. Problem solved! I forgot you hadn't shot it George. Thanks again.

    Double Trouble

I've sent them both ways. Once your post office gets to know you it's no big deal sending stuff without the confusion they have sometimes on what to do. Postal Service won't mail pistols.
  19. I took it out to shoot. My number 10 CCI percussion caps were so tight! No. 11 on a revolver? I managed to gets five shots off with double strikes of the hammer to set them off. They have to be the wrong size. Accuracy was fair, but the Remington New Army Uberti that I have is even more accurate. 1851's epitomize the appearance of the old Colts.
  20. I'd like to have one without spending anything! I know that's impossible, but I have always liked them. I'll consider it though, esp. if it's a post 100,000 serial no.
  21. The pawnshop has an excellent 03 Springfield for sale for a supposed reduced sticker of $800. What is it worth? No one was available to show it to me, so I could only see it 7 ft. away. Outwardly it looks very good.
