  1. Why not just get a different stock? fritz
  2. I wonder if they have ranch land down there? I have often dreamed of selling my holdings here in Texas and moving to a country that needs ranchers, buying up a big spread and just sitting back and live the pura vida (the good life). Of course I wouldn't want to have to work the ranch, but maybe I could hire a bunch of vaqueros to run it for me. Maybe it would help some of those fleeing ther country if I would hire them to work in their own country. Hey, fritz would be happy living the pura vida and so would the unfortunates that are so hard up for a job that they risk their lives coming across our borders. They should thank me for doing this. Maybe this time next year fritz will be a wealthy land owner in Nicaragua, living the pura vida. senor fritz
  3. I think it is more than just someone smoking something. My God! This, combined with report of a weird disese in Texas, has to be associated with the moon phase (the nuts are all dropping out of the trees). Let me say this---pastors may be trained to offer psychological help to folks like those who went through Katrina (or the other disasters that anyone can dream up) but that might just be a good thing. Maybe it will keep psychopaths from running around and crying "Wolf" (or "fire" in a theatre). And killing others. fritz
  4. Well let me say this--mrs fritz is with the Texas Dept. of Health Services, and that crap ain't appeared on any releases from them. And they send out releases on just about everything, some of so little importance as to be unnessary. Rest assured, if you have worms coming out of your ears, they were planted there by aliens from another planet. That one would be easier to believe! fritz
  5. "Come to think of it, I've never seen a Nicaraguan or Costa Rican wetback." That's because they don't run as fast as the Mexicans, and we catch them down here in S. Texas. And if the ecomomy is booming there, why are they leaving? fritz
  6. Maybe that is why our government is so reluctant to incarcerate the millions of illegal Mexicans here now (with more on the way). Simple economics it seems. But since I'm not an economist, I'll go with Karl's rules. fritz
  7. Could be true, but it sure is strange that he was making more spendable (if that is what you want to call it) money than we are today. There is something wrong with that. fritz
  8. Hmmm, Isn't this the country where many illegal immigrants are coming from and getting stopped on the roads in S. Texas, wonder why they are fleeing such a paradise? fritz
  9. When the FED raises the interest rates again, put your money into a FDIC insured CD. I remember my father once getting 17% interest on a 5 year CD. I just about ###### my pants when the rates dropped to 3%. Then I started screwing around with the annuities, etc. Bring back high interest rates, it won't hurt me at this stage of life. I'll just take out an insured CD. That sounds so damned simple, but can anyone explain to me what's wrong with that? fritz
  10. I read that it was mostly the data on veterans that served or got out after 1975, or those with a record of activity with the VA. Neither fits me. fritz
  11. I agree. While they may not generate as much traffic as the general forums, they are needed when we have a question or comment on a certain rifle. Leave them. fritz
  12. If they use something other than corn or other grain to make the ethanol, fine. But if they use grain, it will take feed grain from the producers of livestock and poultry. It will increase the cost of grain. Helpful to the grain farmer, harmful to the livestock and poultry producer. Remember, there will be a price to pay for this conversion. So, do we make fuel cheaper for the gas guzzling SUV's at the expense of higher prices for meat and poultry? Think about it. But if all you think about is cheaper fuel for the SUV's, think twice. "One way to cure our skepticism would be for a company like Deere to introduce farm equipment that ran on the 85/15 mix of ethanol and gasoline. " That would mean making all the diesel farm tractors obsolete, and going back to the gasoline tractors (which have long faded from the scene) and the reason they faded was because they were weaker, less powerful per gallon of fuel used. Powerful yes, at the cost of more fuel. Much easier to convert internal combustion engines to an alternate than it is to convert a cow or chicken to an alternate. Been there, done that. fritz

    Life

I've learned...that life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes. I've learned...that we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for. I've learned...that money doesn't buy class. I've learned...that it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular. I've learned...that under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved. I've learned...that the Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think I can? I've learned...that to ignore the facts does not change the facts. I've learned...that the less time I have to work, the more things I get done. I've learned. fritz
  14. "And who wishes to wager that all this is some type of ploy to win back all the voters who have become disillusioned with the GOP over the war and oil prices? Nothing in politics ever happens without a plan - and all the politians enjoy their job!" You sir, have hit the proverbial nail on the head! Now, maybe somebody needs to hit the PIPs (people in power) on the head, And I believe it is coming. What goes 'round, comes 'round. fritz

    The Quandry

That don't rhyme, but I get your point. fritz
  16. Humor aside for a moment. I read in the paper today that the congress is looking at a national ID card to determine who is legal and who is not. While this won't mean schitt to me, it may to some of you still working. You will need to have this card to obtain employment, and it amounts to a "super social security card". This all was mentioned in an article that warned employers that strict enforcement of the illegal immigrants being hired was coming, indeed has already happened. Since there is no way to determine who is legal or illegal without the card (supposedly) every worker will need to have a card. I don't for a minute think that this will pass, but we are so damned hard pressed now for answers that we are getting ridiculous. Just build the damned wall! And that has been passed, by the way. A lot of dineros can be made by building that 360 mile wall (plus another 500 miles of vehicle barriers). Maybe they can use wetbacks to build it. Wouldn't that be something? fritz
  17. Four women were driving across the country. Each one was from a different place: Idaho, Nebraska, Texas and Mexico. Shortly after the trip began, the woman from Idaho started pulling potatoes from her bag and throwing them out of the window. "What the hell are you doing?" demanded the Nebraskan."We have so many of these damn things in Idaho, I am just sick of looking at them! "A moment later, the gal from Nebraska began pulling ears of corn from her bag and tossing them from the window. "What are you doing that for?" asked the gal from Texas."We have so many of these things in Nebraska, I am just sick of looking at them! "Inspired, the gal from Texas opened the car door and pushed the Mexican out. _____________________________________________________________ fritz
  18. Since we seem to be searching for an answer as to who to vote for in the next election, let me lay this on ya---- Post-Turtle While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to former Texas Governor, George W. Bush and his elevation to the White House. The old Texan said, "Well, ya know, Bush is a 'post turtle'." Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was. The old rancher said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle." The old man saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain, "You know he didn't get there by himself, he doesn't belong there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, and you just want to help the dumb ###### get down fritz

    The Quandry

I could take issue with a few of the "articles upcoming" posted by DT, but I won't waste my time on a forum dominated by those who (like I) tend to be a bit on the right when it comes time to vote. Right or left, what the hell difference does it make when we are getting screwed by both sides? History says that when a certain party screws up, the next election goes against them. I'm sure we are all going to stay up late on election night, to find out who is going to screw us next! fritz

While I prefer the schnapps, I realize some prefer the hops So just let me say this, and I will stop May your glass always be filled with beer And your life always filled with cheer. fritz
  21. Oh, did the president speak? I must have missed it. I heard that he was supposed to adress the nation, but to tell you the truth, I have heard it all before. It makes no never mind to me now what he has to say (and that goes double for his dummy puppet Cheny). I was taking mrs fritz out to dinner during the time slot he obtained to lie to the people once again. And I believe I am the better for it. fritz

    Life

As I sit here drinking blackbirds After reading all the news of the day I am searching, searching for the words That will really mean what I want to say. So much is taking place In this, the human race Where do I turn in my dismay To find the words I wish to say? The words I see upon the pages Of my trustry daily gazette Seem now so lacking of the wages I have spent for what I get They say you reap what you sow And I believe that this is so Where do I turn in my disdain When even now there is no rain? Oh why should I have believed That in this world of ours We would someday be relieved Of those who have all the powers? It will not happen sometime soon Not in this certain phase of moon There needs to be some changes made Before my days turn to shade And in my waning days I hope to find the ways To somehow say the words That have come from all these blackbirds. fritz
  23. Hmmm, Sounds like they are even thicker where you are than here in S. Texas. It appears that someone is playing the odds of reaching more folks with hispanic postal cards than English cards. I wonder if the Mex find a post card written in English that hard to read. As hard to read as that one is to an American? fritz

    Jackpot!

Yes, the returns on annuities are not great, but as you said, safe. I am too old to risk my hard earned money in stocks. My father never did, and he turned a $50,000 annuity into $100,000 before he passed it on to me and my sister. We still have it, and it is safe. If we need it, it is there. And the returns are tax deferred until withdrawn. As we get older we tend to have less income (thus less income tax). Cashing in an annuity in a year that you are in a lower income tax bracket only makes sense. Hell, if my well comes in I won't even need the annuity. I can pass it on to my son. When I got home tonight I saw a new rig lit up just to the east of me. They are getting closer. fritz
  25. Well, I can tell you this---even with 200,000 AKs the Iraqi army will not win this thing with weapons. So it makes no difference where the missing rifles went. The end will be the same. They need help, and even with our help, the future don't looka too good. I don't like it, no one here likes it. So we keep plodding along in our attempt to help them, But more AK-47s won't do it. fritz
