Fellas. I cannot get any more GOEX even Graf and son is out. Now Graf and Son do make an "in-house" BP before I order some on the net. I was thinking of getting some Pyrodex pistol power at the local store. Is Pyrodex pistol power any good? That is how does it compare to "GOEX"? For that matter has anyone used the Graf and son "in-house" BP, if so how does it compare to GOEX? Thanks Karl

Western armies have forgotten what armies are meant to do. The goal of an army is defense or conquest. If it is defense, that is done by killing so many of the foe's people that he is unable to wage war . If conquest, that is done by defeating the foe's army and than killing so many of his people that the reminder beg for peace. All this concern for non-combats is self-defeating. Civilians are supposed to be killed or enslaved and the winner takes the land. Any thing else invites defeat. Genghis Karl

Unless Iran lights up a nuke over the Med fleet or the Izzy's( perhaps not even the Izzy's) or is caught red handed behind another 9/11 I cannot see a US ground invasion. If you had to hold down Iraq and take Iran, it would need 300.000 men to take and hold the land and where are they gonna come from? The Liberals in Congress won't pay or authorize it and if the President tried it based on the War powers act without Congressional approval, they would impeach him and Chaney and that would put Nancy in the White House. I think that the SoU speech was very well done. Mr. Bush made some good points, I do disagree with his border position, but his case in defense of the the war policy was well made. As I see it being in a war is rather like falling in sea, the time to worry and blame is when you are back out, while you are in the only thing to do is fight your way out. Still as the Hippy said, "the Dem's want office, they need an "issue" even if they have to make one, and for them the "issue" is the war". I am not completely happy with the GOP, they had 6 years to repeal all federal gun laws and did not, they had 6 years to repeal abortion laws and did not, they had 6 years to fix the border and did not. They had six years to crush Islam and did not. Still I don't yet see any hope on the left. Karl

Hillary's team has questions about Obama's Muslim background Are the American people ready for an elected president who was educated in a Madrassa as a young boy and has not been forthcoming about his Muslim heritage? This is the question Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s camp is asking about Sen. Barack Obama. An investigation of Mr. Obama by political opponents within the Democratic Party has discovered that Mr. Obama was raised as a Muslim by his stepfather in Indonesia. Sources close to the background check, which has not yet been released, said Mr. Obama, 45, spent at least four years in a so-called Madrassa, or Muslim seminary, in Indonesia. "He was a Muslim, but he concealed it," the source said. "His opponents within the Democrats hope this will become a major issue in the campaign." When contacted by Insight, Mr. Obama’s press secretary said he would consult with “his boss” and call back. He did not. Sources said the background check, conducted by researchers connected to Senator Clinton, disclosed details of Mr. Obama's Muslim past. The sources said the Clinton camp concluded the Illinois Democrat concealed his prior Muslim faith and education. "The background investigation will provide major ammunition to his opponents," the source said. "The idea is to show Obama as deceptive." In two best-selling autobiographies—"The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream" and "Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance"—Mr. Obama, born in Honolulu where his parents met, mentions but does not expand on his Muslim background, alluding only to his attendance at a "predominantly Muslim school." The sources said the young Obama was given the name Hussein by his Muslim father, which the Illinois Democrat rarely uses in public. His father was black and came from Kenya. Mr. Obama’s mother, the daughter of a farmer, came from Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Obama's parents divorced when he was two years old. His father returned to Kenya. Later, Mr. Obama's mother married an Indonesian student and the family moved to Jakarta. Mr. Obama returned to Hawaii when he was 10 to live with his maternal grandparents. The sources said the background check concerned Mr. Obama's years in Jakarta. In Indonesia, the young Obama was enrolled in a Madrassa and was raised and educated as a Muslim. Although Indonesia is regarded as a moderate Muslim state, the U.S. intelligence community has determined that today most of these schools are financed by the Saudi Arabian government and they teach a Wahhabi doctrine that denies the rights of non-Muslims. Although the background check has not confirmed that the specific Madrassa Mr. Obama attended was espousing Wahhabism, the sources said his Democratic opponents believe this to be the case—and are seeking to prove it. The sources said the opponents are searching for evidence that Mr. Obama is still a Muslim or has ties to Islam. Mr. Obama attends services at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago’s South Side. However, he is not known to be a regular parishioner. "Obama's education began a life-long relationship with Islam as a faith and Muslims as a community," the source said. "This has been a relationship that contains numerous question marks." The sources said Mr. Obama spent at least four years in a Muslim school in Indonesia. They said when Mr. Obama was 10, his mother and her second husband separated. She and her son returned to Hawaii. "Then the official biography begins," the source said. "Obama never returned to Kenya to see relatives or family until it became politically expedient." In both of his autobiographies, Mr. Obama characterizes himself as a Christian—although he describes his upbringing as mostly secular. In “The Audacity of Hope,” Mr. Obama says, "I was not raised in a religious household." He describes his mother as secular, but says she had copies of the Bible, the Koran and the Bhagavad Gita in their home. Mr. Obama says his father was "raised a Muslim, but by the time he met my mother he was a confirmed atheist...." Mr. Obama also describes his father as largely absent from his life. He says his Indonesian stepfather was "skeptical" about religion and "saw religion as not particularly useful in the practical business of making one's way in the world ...." In the book, Mr. Obama briefly addresses his education in Indonesia. "During the five years that we would live with my stepfather in Indonesia, I was sent first to a neighborhood Catholic school and then to a predominantly Muslim school; in both cases, my mother was less concerned with me learning the catechism or puzzling out the meaning of the muezzin's call to evening prayer than she was with whether I was properly learning my multiplication tables." Mr. Obama graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law School; he became the first black editor of the Harvard Law Review. He later settled in Chicago, joined a law firm and began attending and helping local churches. is married to Michelle Robinson and they have two daughters, Malia and Sasha. In 1996, he was elected to the Illinois state Senate. Eight years later, he became a U.S. senator from Illinois. The sources said Ms. Clinton regards Mr. Obama as her most formidable opponent and the biggest obstacle to the Democratic Party’s 2008 presidential nomination. They said Ms. Clinton has been angered by Mr. Obama's efforts to tap her supporters for donations. In late 2006, when the Illinois senator demonstrated his intention to run for president, the Clinton campaign ordered a background check on Mr. Obama, the sources said. Earlier this week, Mr. Obama established an exploratory committee, the first step toward a formal race. http://www.insightmag.com/Media/Medi...er/Obama_2.htm" Well now, I guess he would not settle for the VP spot on Hill's ticket. I Hate Lying..misleading Enlistment Adds On Tv
karlunity replied to karlunity's topic in Chewing the Cud
The only "issue" the left have is the "war" with it, they and their fellow travelers in the Media hope to secure power. So they must paint as black a picture as they can. They hate the military and have since the Nam so if their defeatism gets more grunts killed, while it gets them political office, that is just icing on the cake. Karl -
Hello Steve. "American Brand power" is a BP substitute. Here in the PRC GOEX is very hard to find, I don't know why as all the dealers I asked tell me it is still legal to sell. If I cannot find any at the gunshow next month or if " PyrodexP" does not pan out, I am going to pay the Haz-mat fee and order some GOEX over the net. Karl

Fellas. I have a Remington 1858 New Army pistol with GOEX black powder, 24 grains will send a .44 cal 454 target ball down range and in the black of a rifle target at 25 yards. With American Brand powder, 30 grain tube on the flask, 2 out of 12 balls did not clear the barrel: One coursed the pistol to jam. By sticking between the end of the cylinder and the lip of the chamber. I pushed the ball back into the cylinder, took off the nipple and poured in some of this "powder" and fired the ball. The second "incident" was worse. The ball cleared the chamber but stooped about an inch from the muzzle. It was the fourth shot in the cylinder, had I not been trained to listen when I shoot, I could have easily fired another cylinder into a blocked bore...NOT GOOD. The powder also lacked consistency. I use a flask to throw my charge so you would expect a similar result with each charge? Nope, some cylinders went boom some went pop. Save your money and perhaps your hand. Leave the "American brand powder" in the store. Karl

From a British pov No. some of my British friends don't think so. Since I am American, I say yes. In any case, once it was fired, the war was on. karl

My view on the Civil War. The South had the right to leave and to negotiate the return of all Federal forts and posts on THEIR land. Had they done so, Lincoln would not have been able to call for his 75000 volunteers or if he had called for them, would not have gotten them. I think the position of most of the North, except for the abolitionists, who were seen as extremists,( most of the people would NOT have gone to war over slavery in 1861,) would have been, leave if you wish. The abolitionists, the question of the Territory's in the Southwest, the tariff and slavery had split the nation that much. The Cannon fire at Sumter changed all that. They DID NOT have the right when they fired on the flag of the USA at Fort Sumter. If one accepts the position of the South, to wit that they were a separate nation, than that was an act of War. If one takes the position, incorrectly I think, that they were not a separate nation, then that was treason. No one has the right to fire on the American Flag. This had to be answered in the field and the "fire eaters" knew it when they fired the first cannon shot. Karl

Thanks Jerry. Make that two History teachers. CG is part of the club. The thing is that none of this is new. This sort of thing, minus the new weapons, goes back to Egypt and what gets annoying is we never learn that when you go to war go to war. War goes not have to be large, but it has to be unlimited if you want to win. If you don't want that, don't go to war. Karl
-
Hello CG. The thing that annoys me I guess is allowing war for the sake of grand theories of world improvement. We seem to get into them led by the heros of the think tanks. If I were CIC, we would get into very few wars but the ones we had to fight would be total effort by that I mean "total war' in the WW ll meaning of the concept. They would be over very fast. Right after 9/11, the American people would have turned the Middle East into a parking lot, but all the anger was defused with the "Islam is the religion of peace" crap MUCH of it coming out of D.C.!!!! Make war pay for war take a rather large cut of the locals oil as payment for security and hire troops to police the area. Put Sunni troops in the Shiite area and Shiite troops in the Sunni area. Give them a free hand as long as they keep order. That tactic is as old as Egypt. Now if the bloody result ,in the short run, is unacceptable to our delicate national public palate, pull the troops out, declare victory and leave the whole region. After letting the foe know that the next attack will cost them Mecca. What put the old USSR over the edge was "Star wars". Their fear was that it would make their atomic weapons useless and they knew that they did not have the money for a new trillion dollar arms race. This does point out a problem with our armed forces theory of conflict. If a small colonial war over three years is "wearing down our forces" how are they going to handle a major war with China and battles on the scale of Hue or Normandy? We have to change the ROE. From what I hear it is worst than The Nam. The British grunts are carrying cameras to record their actions in case the media or the locals bring charges against them!!!!!!! How do you fight a war when you have to worry about your own people putting you in jail for fighting too aggressively? Karl

The only thing that the Middle East respects is force and the will to use it. It is trying to play "nice--nice" that gets us in trouble. The problem is ours not theirs. In the last 100 years the West has lost it's self confidence and self assurance. As the French would say the power is still there but the conquering will is gone. 150 years ago they would have blown Saddam from a gun, called it well done and gone off for a cup of Tea. The natives would had seen and learned. Karl P.S. "What ever happens we have got the Maxim gun and they have not". Updated and done rock and roll beat. "What ever daddy.. like we got the Moab bomb and like they so do not'

Hell. I don't see a problem. You gave a poor homeless rifle a good home and some ammo to eat. I am thinking about a new cap and ball pistol or a .22 rifle. The only thing holding me up is that there is a Gun Show next month and I am saving up. Karl

To a degree King had a point. All Americans should be treated equally and solely on merit. Which, by the way, is NOT the way the liberals see it. Karl
